Hi, i bought a dell U2410 today and i am trying to find out a bit more information on the warranty. do i need to register the monitor for the 3 year warranty?

i see that the box has a white label with a code and a barcode on it. it also has a 6 digit code which i assume is the service tag?

When i go to the dell website.....

http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/uk/en/ukdhs1/ProductSelector

..... to register the monitor or check the warranty on the support section and put the 6 digit number in i get this message

Service Tag or Express Service Code entered is not in the correct format. Please enter a valid Service Tag or Express Service Code.

i dont see any other numbers on the box or monitor

anyone else had this problem?

You don't need to register it but you can if you wish.

I registered my Dell U3011 recently, so that my information was recorded, as I needed to get it replaced.

The Service Tag was on a white label fixed to the box (it also has the serial number and 6 character DP/N).

Mine was 7 characters with a number, 5 letters and then a number below the DP/N.

This is a picture of the white label on the box, the bits painted red are the DP/N number and the part painted yellow is where the serial number is. i cant see no other service tag code on there. The only other label is a postage one.

Is it possible the U2410 model doesnt come with a service tag?

Isn't that link you posted the Dell PC/laptop service site as it says it can automatically detect your tag number. I would say that as long as you keep your receipt which has the date of purchase on it you will be fine. I also just had a little google and found this on Dells forum as a sticky -

Only the 27" and 30" monitors received a Service Tag number. All others would have received a Dell Order number on the original Dell invoice. You would contact Order Support (not Technical Support) for your country and provide to them the following information -
Name:
Email Address:
Shipping address:
Phone number:
Monitor Order number:
Monitor 20 digit PPID number:
Operating system:
Video card:
Video card ports tested:
Reason:

So your 24" does not have a service tag number and i am pretty sure that they will just require you to have your receipt so keep it safe.

Cool, il just have to keep the receipt somewhere safe and assume the 3 years guarantee starts from the date of purchase .

Cheers guys :)

I believe the 3 years starts from the date Dell originally shipped the monitor.

My monitor was shipped on 1/10/10 (it's on the label).

I purchased it on 9/11/10.

Having registered it with Dell it states the warranty started on 1/10/10.
