I think it might just be some sort of placebo effect but I swear games seem to run smoother on this NVidia card however it seems that my old 6870 had much better colours and sharpness. For example the text on COD4 seemed really sharp on the AMD card and the colours seemed more vibrant, on the NVidia card it seems slightly blurred around the edges but again, the game seems to run smoother.

Anyone done the same as me and noticed these things? Or am I just mental lol.

Have you gone from your AMD dual gpu set-up to a single gpu Nvidia card? If so, then that might be it. Going from two gpu's to one will more than likely be a smoother experience, though yes, I tend hear more often that Nvidia is smoother while AMD have more vibrant colours / more noticeable colour contrasts.

I tend to share similar sentiments to these; in my experience I found ATi's image softer and thicker, while Nvidia's are crisper but colours like black, proper crushed blacks, don't have the same tone / contrast that ATi gives with other colours. I also preferred ATi's desktop IQ. Swings and roundabouts imo.

I've gone from x1 6870 (sold one a while back to fund the 580) to a 580. I've got COD4 at 250FPS anyway but I swear it somehow feels a lot smoother to play. I didn't have any FPS lagg/stutter with the 6870, the card ran the game perfect and always above 60 (it was on 250 all the time plying promod) but like I keep saying, it just feels a lot smoother like movement and things. But the 6870 seemed to have a lot better/vibrant colours and a lot sharper image quality even on things like YouTube.

I've uninstalled every trace of AMD drivers (even regedit) and i've not had any issues yet so i'm assuming everything is working as intended. I'm also running native res (1080p).

No idea lol, seems like you can't have the best of both worlds here haha.

The last time I was on Nvidia (soon to be again ;)) I noticed the vibrance/shapness to begin with, have a play in the NVCP, found adjusting one of the sliders helped (gamma I think).
