Hi All,

So I get this free code from ocuk for buying amd graphics card and then visit amd to activate. I then have to go elsewhere and purchase game from ubisoft. I then have to go to Uplay and here I have stopped.

I'm a newbie at this online game business so can I ask is Uplay just another place like STEAM and do I get to download game to my HDD or do I have to play online?

It's kinda like a really bad version of steam, you download the game to HD but probably have to launch it through uplay (assume you are talking about Far Cry 3).

If its anything like Assassins Creed 3 then you have to download it through what looks like a shifty download manager. Install it and then actually register the game through Uplay. Whenever you then start it, Uplay tracks your progress as well as allowing you to add friends and purchase items. It also includes a 'rewards' thing where you complete achievements and can spend them in the Uplay store.

its farcry3 and you must get it through uplay. PITA.

You should get an email explaining the steps. basically go to the ubisoft store in your browser, add farcry3 to basket. use provided code in the promotions section of your basket. It will make the price £0.00 and then you're golden. place order and it will be added to your uplay account....

So much for the great offer. I've got 20% off MoH Warfighter as well but I'm sure there was supposed to be a free Sleeping Dogs as well that I have no redeem code for.

You still have to use Uplay with all the new Ubisoft releases even if its bought through Steam.

Launch Steam > Launch Uplay > Launch PITA useless DRM > Launch DRM for DRM > Uplay crashes > Start again... finally play game.

Its the future.

Ughhhh hate Uplay almost enough to make me not enjoy Far Cry 3.

Moved my desktop to a living room, Xbox pad setup as soon as Big Screen came out, Far Cry being one of the games I was doing it for, and now, as brilliant as Steam is, when I start up Far Cry, I have to then get out the keyboard and mouse to navigate through and wait for 10 minutes while uplay gets everything together. Then once I'm playing, every 30 minutes or so I get alt tabbed out to Uplay. It's awfully fun. /rant

That's the only thing I like about uPlay, it has achievements that are actually worth having because they can be spent on unlocks/mini-DLC like missions, weapons and other items that actually have some bearing on your games. Also the points can be spent on any game so e.g. you could get points for completing FC3 chapters and then spend them on bonuses for Assassin's Creed games or whatever. I tend to do things that way so I get full benefit from the rewards rather than redeeming for items when I've nearly finished a game.

UPlay doesn't seem to work properly for me. I got it working for Far Cry 3 eventually but it's annoying and buggy. I can;'t even set an avatar for it, when you click on change avatar it just went to their webpage every time! Bizarre bloatware and totally unnecessary.

Well I tried installing the FarCry2 that was free with my build as it came as a disc but it kept failing to launch saying I was missing a certain file (might try again another day and remeber to make note of missing file).

So, I went back to the Uplay version of FarCry3 and after downloading finally got to play a game.

Now I feel really old. (Is there any need for all that language? maybe swearing here and there but not every other word).

First time i have tried playing a game with those stick controllers on a Microsoft XBox controller and wow they will take some getting used to. (Couldn't work out how to move for several minutes) But at least I managed to launch a game.

Thank goodness I should be able to play a good old real time strategy tomorrow when Company of Heroes gets delivered.

Have to look back at earlier post to find the other RTS games advised.

Why are you playing an FPS with an Xbox controller?

I need to get back into Far Cry 3. I really enjoyed it when I was playing it, taking over the outposts in particular was my favourite part of the game.
