Croydon tram overturns - many injured, some trapped

With today's events in America I haven't seen much comment about this nasty looking incident:

Reading on twitter that some people have died in this. Hope that turns out not to be true.

how does a tram turn over??? its not like you can take a quick evasive turn to flip it over

When I heard a tram had been overturned in Croydon, I thought someone must have dropped an ounce of weed underneath it or there'd been another riot.

Ouch... what a horrible thing to happen.

Read about this earlier, crazy! I catch the tram from Wimbledon sometimes and I never would have imagined they could tip over.

I wonder how the victims died. I would have thought if it tipped over people would just fall from one side to the other (not a big drop).

Horrible thing to happen

. Must be awful for their families and such a shock.

If it's rammed, as suggested, then that's a lot of people tipped over, you could be six-seven people deep, that's a lot of weight if you are underneath. and surrounding.

Horrible horrible situation.

Ah, I wasn't aware it was packed. I guess you are right then, they must have been trapped under people and suffocated

I can see why the driver got arrested then. Complete negligence to speed with the weather we've been having.
