Gigabyte Update - CPU Fix

Hi,

I recently updated my bios to F20 on Gigabyte Gaming 7 170x board.

I'm using an i5 6600k.

Previously (all stock speeds / auto settings) - the VCore was circa 1.195 and I was getting 26c idle / 55c full load etc.

I noticed once I updated the bios it increased my vcore to 1.270~ and I was getting much higher temps.

Read a few posts & a few users having the same issues - the bios update was to add Kabylake compatibility - presumably its messed with the voltages on Skylake.

Anyway, to fix - I set my vcore to "normal" and then added a -0.100v offset. Temps back to normal & vcore is down. Just wanted to make sure this is the best method - as in idle, I'm getting really low vcore's - ie. 0.138v - is this still stable?

It's all prime/burn test stable & no crashes yet, so I think it's right.

Probably going to test an OC with a slightly lower offset if so.

Also - if i enable XMP profile - is it normal to add 10c to my cpu temps?

Thanks

Gigabyte have now released F21 bios and it fixes the VCore issue.

Updated & ran a burn test - temps now 60~c full load versus 70c before (at stock).

I'll now experiment with OC'ing using the new BIOS.
