The 5,000+ mile average MPG thread

No you don't.

Unless you also drive exclusively around Jersey and never use a dual carriageway or cruise at a speed more than 40mph.

I'm going purely off my On board display not reset for 700 miles. If I cba I'll do a proper fuel check manually.

I know that readout would go down massively when I rip past you in your BMW diesel though :D

I am not going to explain to you what is the difference between intra and inter sampling variability as you don't even seem to understand the concepts of precision and accuracy. When there is another thread that will allow for manual entries you can submit your "accurate" results but until then .... bye :)

I don't need you to, I already know. You fundamentally cannot factually believe an OBC for MPG. It's complete fallacy, VW will help you out there. As I already mentioned, my Disco tells me I get 38mpg on the motorway. A 3 tonne 4WD Twin Turbo Diesel. Within the Mongoose software there is even a calibration tool which states that your OBC will be out, no one believes it, or the MPG read out in any car with any real sense of worth. The sooner you understand that, the sooner you can leave.....

*** keep it civil - Thanks, Armageus ***

Right - give it a rest with the "school" insults - either keep it civil or don't bother posting.

/Mod hat off: Can't actually see the point in this thread - criteria is stupidly restrictive, and as has been pointed out, trip computers can be out anyway.

A150, city miles ;-)

Crazy thread is crazy. I'll put up accurate info, because who has time to purposely reset to get inaccurate data to win the internet?

My old 530d, over 36k

It was actually very accurate even when compared to OBC. In my notes on fuelly, I logged the tank average as well as average speed, and fuel used. Usually the results logged manually were within 1 mpg of results from the OBC.

My Alhambra over 13k tracked miles:

The OBC isn't quite as accurate on here. Probably around 5% off compared to manual figures. But I don't use it the same way, since the trip resets after a few hours of inactivity.

My Edition 30. Over around 3500 miles, so not yet meeting the 5,000 mile requirement, but still interesting none the less.

Some of my older cars:

My old B5.5 Passat 1.9 TDI 130 over 5,000 miles:

One of my Range Rovers (4.6 V8) over 2,000 miles:

My old 335d over 17,000 miles.

No one cares, this accurate data is useless because you filled up at different places.....

True. Who care about highly accurate, calibrated pump data when you can rely on OBC data which can often be user "calibrated". Thats if the manufacturer doesn't decide to cheat you anyway (I'm looking at you Audi, when I went in to complain about fuel economy on my 2.0 TDI, and you re-calibrated the OBC instead of fixing the issue. I was complaining about fuel economy based on fuel in against mileage, not what the OBC showed me, which was, at the time, the same. It wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't completely mess it up and made the OBC display WORSE than calculated, as if that was helping in any way).

It just takes one "poorly" calibrated pump and all that data is useless.
Anyway, these are the rules for this thread, so only posts with an OBC capture are valid.

You've really got to stop with this nonsense.

P.s. On this forum the OP does not necessarily dictate the 'rules' of the thread. Stick around an you'll see that that is the case. :)
