I've been away from the PC gaming scene for 10-15 years now (the last PC I built was with a GeForce FX 5700!) but I somehow managed to end up occasionally getting paid to play games so I figured I'd jump back in, and it's been fun (but expensive) so far. I've almost finished my build, or at least all the big bits, and now I'm just tweaking it for the heck of it.
My background is mostly systems admin and database development (particularly "big data"; I used to be a regular contributor to the Hadoop codebase) but I've had occasional forays into PR, sales, and middle management, and I've worked for everything from small startups to behemoths like IBM. I currently do freelance web development (mostly back-end tedium), the odd bit of writing, and generally being a massive nerd. I'm looking to make a sideways move into something less technically dense to give my ageing brain a rest, so if anyone's hiring let me know!
