I did a quick google search and yea a 2600x smashes the 8400 cpu.
I think learned people already know this but for you, you seem to be a newcomer
@stephens5079
It is not a matter of single threaded speed now because pc games and applications will have to support 6 or more cores and threads so in essence the amd processor smashes the intel processor you see, which is good so no more single threaded speed regarding intel's higher ipc when compared to amd because amd's extra threads make the processor faster i think correct me if i am wrong.
So it is no longer alien to have unused cores/threads you see when you use an app or play a most recent pc game.
Because of unused cores and threads, intels lead on amd due to single thread/ipc always beats the amd processor.
This demonstrates what happens when a game actually uses amd's extra cores and threads and yes it quite an old image because it is the 1600 vs 7600k so it should give you an idea of what happens,
So if you mainly play old pc games then it is better for you to jump on intels bandwagon because it will always beat amd there regarding single thread performance and higher ipc (instructions per clock).
Also ryzen loves fast ram (3000/3200mhz) more than intel processors do.
Intel is the gaming and performance king but amd is the value bang for buck king.
The ryzen 1600 cost less than the 7600k and quite in a way giving much better performance for buck as demonstrated in the image above when a program actually uses the cores/threads.
Even if you overclocked the 7600k it still would not touch the ryzens lead in performance either stock or overclocked regarding the ryzen cpu in the above image.
Hope that makes sense.
