Hi Guys,

My brother is asking me for suggestions on a build to enable him to play Fortnite..... On high - Epic settings. In an ideal world it wouldnt cost the earth, Im not sure how intensive that game is on a computer so any help is great. Would require a full build barring Monitor KB Mouse and GPU as i think he has just got a new one.

Thanks in advance :)

Please tell us if you want peripherals and also what the budget is?

edit okay i re read your post you said barring monitor kb mouse and gpu so get the rest yea..

Thanks,

Dan.

edit i'll decide the budget, it will be £600-800 varying

You should be able to get a powerful enough computer for that money..

Okay this is over budget but hey..

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £866.54 (includes shipping: £11.70)

This is for the tower only.

Don't know if you need all those parts as i am thick.

Will it do the job for fortnight answer will be a yes, don't know what resolution he is playing on though but for 1080p yes this graphics card can play it on ultra.

Thanks for the replies so far, Yeah only 1080p, AMD the best bang for buck currently?

Thanks

Amd ryzen builds are often recommended quite a lot on this forum, yes amd gives better bang for buck indeed here when the processor is used to it's fullest like using all the cores and threads the processor gives, anyways new games like battlefield 5 and world of warcraft classic is most likely to use more cores and threads.

Anyways you save 50 quid on the ryzen bundle deal since the free ssd is worth 50 quid, really would help with boot times etc.

Intel wins hands down for gaming as it is the performance king but not the value king (bang for buck) which is amd you see but the amd processor is no slouch when it comes to performance though.

I told ya £600-800 budget will give you a powerful enough computer, as for the 8400 cpu it is the sweetspot for value/performance which is intel's offering and is a nice processor it self, but for the same money or close you can get a 2600x which would smash it in overall performance with all it's cores and threads used.

https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-intel_core_i5_8400-766-vs-amd_ryzen_5_2600x-874

I did a quick google search and yea a 2600x smashes the 8400 cpu.

I think learned people already know this but for you, you seem to be a newcomer ;-) @stephens5079

It is not a matter of single threaded speed now because pc games and applications will have to support 6 or more cores and threads so in essence the amd processor smashes the intel processor you see, which is good so no more single threaded speed regarding intel's higher ipc when compared to amd because amd's extra threads make the processor faster i think correct me if i am wrong.

So it is no longer alien to have unused cores/threads you see when you use an app or play a most recent pc game.

Because of unused cores and threads, intels lead on amd due to single thread/ipc always beats the amd processor.

This demonstrates what happens when a game actually uses amd's extra cores and threads and yes it quite an old image because it is the 1600 vs 7600k so it should give you an idea of what happens,

So if you mainly play old pc games then it is better for you to jump on intels bandwagon because it will always beat amd there regarding single thread performance and higher ipc (instructions per clock).

Also ryzen loves fast ram (3000/3200mhz) more than intel processors do.

Intel is the gaming and performance king but amd is the value bang for buck king.

The ryzen 1600 cost less than the 7600k and quite in a way giving much better performance for buck as demonstrated in the image above when a program actually uses the cores/threads.

Even if you overclocked the 7600k it still would not touch the ryzens lead in performance either stock or overclocked regarding the ryzen cpu in the above image.

Hope that makes sense.

Pros and cons for both . Ryzen is cheap and head ache for ram , specially at launch and bios.
Intel is plug and play but runs hot, expensive and lack of progress in the last 7 odd years !

80% of games , single core speed is key . 2***X chips did greatly to help . Latest triple AAA have gotten better like example about but still suck ! Best game for cores and threads.. lost planet 2/3 ... Ahead of its time !

Either one is great, agaon both have plus and minus . Happy building and playing :)

Just put a decent graphics card in what ever system he has now, unless it's 9+ years old, then it will play Fortnite fine at 1080P. If it's Core i3/i5/i7 from any 2nd Gen onwards e.g. i3-2120 or i5-2400, or i5 3540 etc.

By decent I mean a GTX 1060 6GB, or Radeon RX 580, and if he doesn't have an SSD get one. :)
