Ring overclockers and speak to someone. Gigabyte don't have the best bios. So if your going to over clock then I would go Asus.

Currently its between:

Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI
ASUS STRIX Z390-E GAMING, Intel Z390, S 1151, DDR4, SATA3, Dual M.2, 2-Way SLi/3-Way CrossFire, WiFi, USB3.1 A+C, ATX

MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON AC, Intel Z390, S 1151, DDR4, SATA3, Dual M.2, 2-Way SLi/CrossFire, WiFi, USB3.1 A+C, ATX

I'm guessing I should go for the strix?

I decided to go for the Strix. Can't quite convince myself to stretch to the Hero... If I keep adding £40 here and £60 there, this build is just going to become way too expensive.
I know what you're saying. I recommended the Hero as it was only £20 over your limit of £250. The strix looks a great board tho :)

Good luck with gigabyte. Can’t wait to RMA mine.

Should take 3-4 days if you RMA directly

Push the hero, phases as well as 4+8 pin. Means load of more spread .

Not sure if you've seen reviews but lot of volts is pulled and VRMs can get hot

Why not a taichi? That board seems to be getting overlooked and has some beefy VRM's that can surpass a Hero just looking at the VRM setup. You don't even need the Ultimate version unless you need the 10gb ethernet or the latest wifi.

Are Asrock bad with mem/bios?

tacihi is 10+2 set up , 12 Texas Instruments TI 87350D with 6 Infineon IR3598, 5 for which are Vcore . IR35201 8-channel PWM controller running 5+ 2 (additional two ON Semiconductor FDPC5030SG Dual-N channel MOSFET) . Few reviews stating its underplayed its hand - but does beat the Hero on paper - just

aorus ultra and master beat it whilst being cooler- specially the Master and Xtreme running VRMS in about 35-45c under 5.0ghz +
Godlike and Ace from MSI looks extreme good though!

thermals of Hero (5ghz) vs Master (5.1ghz)

@orbitalwalsh I just don't have much confidence in GB's BIOS and compatibility and judging by many reviews, 8-pack's feedback and doing my own research, it's their software that's often the issue.

Keep in mind that the master in that review had issues running at 5.2ghz due to funky bios issues where as the other boards ran at 5.2 no problem. The Master also required more voltage while running a lower OC than the Hero. VRM thermals aside, that's not very confidence inspiring.

I'm not trying to pile on GB. It's just apparent they have a lot of work to do on the software/bios side of the house to stay in the conversation.

Yep, bios is there current flaw, can make a ohycial better board and better RMA being UK based the. The rest but bios has been their weaknesses.
New bios design is neat, an improvement but needs to be improved on.
Asus have better two slot design, Aorus better at 4 sticks .

MSI Godlike should have never had a plx chip... would have driven board price down $200 :/
