Only thing letting the Lexus range down is you are pretty limited to a saloon style. Both great shouts though. The volvo V70 in D5 form is probably the only estate from the euro 3 era that is absolutely solid. Get a 54 to 55 plate one (pre dpf) with some service history (tbh most have full) and it's not even bangernomics as the things are so reliable. At least you get all the space of an estate then.

You might even find a older XC90 at this price point, uninspiring, but supremely comfy, certainly not as complicated as the German equivalents

Why not just hire, you could get an M4 for a grand per week, or a JAG F-Pace for a lot less, travel in style then give it back without worrying about reselling a nail that will probably let you down mid holiday?
