See WH Smiths in the news today, basically been rated the worst (or second worst) shopping experience for the past 9 years in a row in recent Which research. One of the major complaints is stuffy/cramped stores. They've done nothing at all to change that.

Can't even remember the last time I went into a WHSmiths. I used to go in for magazines etc. years ago but not even sure what they specialise in now. Is it books or something?

Has anyone else noticed an increase in dispensing chemists in your area? 3 have opened in my area in the last six months.

Is Boots core business still pharmacy?

Ripping off the NHS is where boots make the majority of there money
I'll bite. What do you mean by this? People get prescriptions, they take them to a chemist, the chemist exchanges the prescription for the items listed on it and the person walks out, paying the fee where applicable. How can the chemist rip off the NHS?

Why pay £25 when I can pay £20 or cheaper? Granted it's only a fiver but the difference between making £20 and losing out on a fiver or no money at all. Boots chose no money.

That's not how pharmacies earn money from NHS prescriptions, they charge NHS England (other areas may be different) per prescription processed. Your general point is correct though as there is a national framework setting out exactly what those charges are, if you're interested (and you don't have to be!) you can read more here:

I don't buy fizzy vitamins because i'm not a child. :p

All kidding aside, ASDA do 3 for £10 although smaller bottles, I personally use Seven Seas 'Cod Liver Oil + A-Z Multivitamins' but that's from Costco here in Derby. Can't remember what i've paid for it as it's a years supply and i've got about a 1/4 left.

Aye, thanks - I know how it works but I'm interested in knowing more about how they make money by "ripping off the NHS".

Ahh you see I like the effervescent ones, I very rarely drink coffee these days so it's always my first drink of the day. I don't know if it's related but my next wee, normally an hour or so after having had the multi-vit is always a pleasing bright yellow colour :D

I get that if I drink Nourishment haha! Comes out like a glow-in-the-dark yellow. :D

From what I gather that's actually bad as you're quite literally ******* away the vitamins.

Funny you mention that, when I moved to my current area there was just one pharmacy nearby, like 300 meters from my flat along the main highstreet. Since then another has opened actually on my development (attached to the GP practice) so about 100 meters from my front door (very usefully they're open early in the morning and don't close till about 9pm) and another has opened about 500 meters away at the station.

I can't remember the last time I bought something from Boots. Perhaps, it's because Superdrug and Savers offer a wider choice at lower price than Boots. Also, their overbearing Security Guards treating you like you are a criminal as soon as you walk into the shop.

Also, I support the smaller Pharmacies.

Standard, I get the same if I ever have berocca etc.. ditto to the "nourishment" drink the other poster mentioned above... which just seems to be a basic milkshake with sugar and added vitamins. You take a massive dose of synthetic vitamins via these supplements and you will probs urinate out most of it pretty quick.

A quick search shows it's common when taking B2. Most vitamins contain more B2 (riboflavin) than the body requires so it's getting rid of the extra. The one I take has 15mg of riboflavin but the recommended daily intake is between 1 and 1.5mg. Hence the excess gets passed out.
