Hello

Yesterday i come onto overclockers to grab the Asus TUF Fx505DT that they had on sale but realised it had shot up by £50 from the day before.

So i have looked further into laptops around £700 and found a HP Omen with the following specs: 144hz screen, i5 7300HQ, GTX1060, 8GB ram, SSD + HDD. Brand new for £750.

Having a quick look through google i can see the GTX 1060 is the better gpu, but will it be more future proof? Which of the 2 laptops would you pick?

Thanks

The 1650 looks like to be 5-10% slower than the 1060, depends on the games you're thinking of playing the 1650 will probably be fine playing comfortably at medium-high settings at 1080p.
What will set them apart will be their thermal solution, if the Asus has better thermal handling then it will probably perform than the HP Omen as its able to handle the temps better and vice versa.
Like most PC hardware once they start thermal throttling the performance will drop on load.
I've read that some of the HP Omens have poor thermal management so definitely check reviews on their thermal management on the two.

Yeah its the 6gb one. Only thing that put me off is the HP Omen model number dates back to July 2017. So essentially a 2 year old design.

Reckon its worth the £750? It is brand new and comes with the manufactures standard guarantee.

Is the i5 7300 going to be fine for a few good years? Thanks

MEDION ERAZER X6805

Throwing this into the mix aswell. Anyone know what their 3 years warranty is like?

Very similar specs to the omen but the newer i5 8300. Reviews say it has a good screen but it is a 60hz IPS screen rather than the 144hz on the Omen.

Cheers

I wouldn't get caught up in the Omen 144hz hype, the 1060 will only maintain that sort of framerate on older games or with settings turned down.
