GPU Temp Sensors

My MSI 1080Ti is off for repair after overheating issues. Was using MSI Afterburner custom fan curves etc but still overheats and MSI said to RMA it.

Was wondering about a way to get the motherboard temp sensors to monitor the GPU temp as well as CPU/Mboard.
I know that some GPU's have a connector which lets a fan plugin, I think?

Would love to set a case fan to help cool GPU as well as it's own coolers.

The motherboard doesn't have any GPU temperature sensors, but the GPU itself has its own sensors. You can monitor temperatures, amongst many other things, in Windows using software such as HWiNFO:

What I'm guessing you're trying to do is to be able to control a chassis fan based on the GPU's temperature reading? If that's what you want, you'll have to install some software in Windows to be able to do this. I've read that SpeedFan is able to do this (but I've not tried this myself, so use with caution):

Speedfan is a lovely bit of software if:

- It works with your motherboard (support was poor for newer motherboards since about Haswell/AMD FX, but updates do happen)
- You can work out the interface and its quirks
- You love to tweak and fiddle with settings

There is another option called Argus Monitor which I've heard good things about but is not free.

You may also find newer motherboard/fan controller software is able to monitor GPU temps too. It's not a given though because ultimately, the GPU temp reading is passed via software not hardware.
