My story, I was waiting for the 2070 to drop in price, then the 2070 supers were announced, so seeing the AIB 2070 supers hitting over £550, I bought a 2080 for the price you are quoting which arrived today. 2 benchmarks so far, F1 2018 ultra preset, a overclocked GTX 970 as per TechRadar @ 72 FPS, stock 2080 with a 1845 boost (it went higher) 173 FPS. DCS world in VR, overclocked 970, everything on low, all eye candy off, 2xAA and 1.2 PD, 22 FPS sat on the runway in a Huey on Persian Gulf. Stock 2080, all settings on high, 16xAA, msaa highest, ssaa highest, ultra visibility and 1.5 PD and sat on the runway 45 FPS. The rift changed my gaming experience, and now the 2080 has changed my rift gaming experience.

I am running a 7+ year old 3770K @ 4.5 with a ROG MVF board.

Get the 2080 mate.

Well the 2070s is faster, although not by much.
One thing you can bet on is that the 5700 will only get quicker as time goes on, as it typical with AMD drivers the cards with fresh architectures tend to pick up speed as the months pass and the drivers are polished.

Nvidia recently magically found some performance for there cards down the back of the sofa as well but this is not the norm for them, you have to wonder if this kind of uplift is just sitting waiting for a release....
