Hi all,

I need to get a capture device for work - we need to capture video from TV set top boxes. The main products I'm looking at are an Elgato Cam Link or a generic Asian type one branded AGPTEK.

The Elgato doesn't have HDMI out so would make it challenging to capture while testing on a TV. The Asian one does, and is a good 30% cheaper.

Anyone got any experience with the cheaper capture devices? It's just for recording clips of testing, so doesn't need to be super low latency or anything.

Would an HDMI splitter work ok if we use the Elgato?

No direct experience with the elgato as we use avid airspeed for video capture. We have experience capturing from both humax and sky boxes with HDMI converted to sdi using yellobrik converters. Big problems initially due to hdcp which were solved by using some cheap Chinese HDMI distribution amps which do what you are looking for and split one incoming HDMI signal into 4 and strip the hdcp in the process.
