Hi all,

I was looking for advice for a new silent build I've been thinking about for a while now. I've not kept up with the Ryzen or Navi releases so I don't know which are the best options for 1440 gaming.

  • Which is the quietest / best performing Navi card?
  • Best Ryzen CPU for 1440 gaming?
  • Unsure on mobo
  • Unsure on SSD
  • Last I heard AMD recommended 3200MHz RAM for Ryzen, is this still right or do you recommend something different?

For as quiet a build as possible I was considering:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £326.91 (includes shipping: £0.00)

And for the monitor I was thinking:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £469.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Thanks!

Push 801 if you can. Bigger 140mm fans.

Or Phanteks p600s case .

Silent wings re something else though !

Quietest would be would Nvidia . Some Navi cards are thick and 3 slots but run warmer and higher power draw , so faster fans to keep lower temps and higher boost .

Ryzen CPUs run cooler and tAke a lot less to cool, so lower fan speeds .

If you want to make sure PSU is silent, overcompensate, 850w would mean system is running at lower power draw = slower fan speed but too much and your out of the good eff rating etc

Thanks :)

The 601 comes with 2 preinstalled Pure Wings 2 140mm fans so would the 801 offer anything more? I was planning on swapping out the Pure Wings for Silent Wings 3 fans as I understand they're quieter.

Quieter? Better sound proofing?

You mean you like them?

Understood. Which are the best of the current crop of Navi?

Would you recommend a particular chip?

Understood, I'll look at the price differences when I come to buying.

Silent Wings fans are very quiet, made a noticeable difference to my build. The cooler you've chosen is more than enough for a Ryzen build, and as for the CPU, you're choosing between a Ryzen 5 3600 or a Ryzen 7 3700X. Six or eight cores, its up to you but I don't think most games show that much of a difference between them at present and at 1440p you are GPU bound.

As for PSU, are EVGA G2 PSU's still available? They are very good, nothing wrong with your current choice.

For case, have you looked at a Fractal Design or BeQuiet? They tend to be silence orientated (Non-window versions).

The monitor you've chosen is the best reviewed 1440p high refresh rate one and the one i want to get at some point even though i've got the Dell S2716DG.

Updating this thread just in case anyone finds it in the future and also wants advice on minimising noise.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

+ mobo will be a B550, maybe the MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC edition, or equivalent, ETA soon apparently. Maybe Q4.
  • As suggested above I've up'd the PSU to a RMx 750w, the increased power gives more headroom before the 40% load is reached.
  • RAM seems the sweet spot for a 3700X
  • 3700X seems about right for this build I reckon. A bit overkill for gaming but should hopefully last longer.
  • SSD not bothered about M.2, hence B550 mobo
  • Picked Red Devil over Nitro+ as it has a better implemented version of the silent BIOS, and the Sapphire pulls more power so not as good for keeping PSU quiet, and the reason for slightly louder fans. Both have a zero RPM 60c mode though. Quietest card reviewed here too

Quiet case go for some steel, thick panels, like fractal design define xl R2.
At the moment, excellent price for 3600Mhz ram, 8pack. Excellent for Ryzen.
