My eldest is set on getting a new graphics card for Christmas, since he has had to turn down a lot of settings on recent games (most notably RDR2) using his RX570.
I think we'll spend £350-400 on him in total. He's happy to have all this used to get the best possible card, but any savings we could squeeze out to get him something else would be good, too.
He has a 24" 1080p G-Sync screen, and likes AAA (especially open-world) games with lots of eye candy.
I was thinking the 2070 would be best given it will actually be able to use the G-Sync capabilites of the monitor, but I'm wondering if either of those cards is actually a bit overkill at just 1080p, meaning fps will be high enough for G-Sync not to matter anyway? In which case the better value 5700 XT might become preferable (especially the cashback deals on here).
Also thinking a bit about longevity so he (hopefully) won't be asking for another card to upgrade to next Christmas!
A quick look at benchmarks doesn't seem to show much difference between the two, really. A few percent, perhaps 5-10% at most, and a fair bit of to and fro from game to game.
Pretty sure it's between these two, since the 2070 Super is too much more money.
I'm leaning towards spending more to get the 2070 for G-Sync (which he's never experienced before). Is there anything I should know that might sway my decision?
