Hi

recently bought a treadmill for our garage and to make space we basically piled everything up at one end in boxes.

Sooo i am looking for some decent strength shelving units to put along one wall and organise things most likley in those large plastic tubs with lids.

i have seen the modular shelves that have strips on the walls that you can put your brackets at what ever height you like but i dont think these will take enough weight.

probably going to go for some freestanding shelving units but i have seen them range from £10 to over £100!

Im wanting about 3m worth of shelves for £100ish

anyone recently bought some solid units for a decent price?

no idea on quality or anything but i found these recently. https://www.diy.com/departments/4-shelf-steel-shelving-unit/1710950_BQ.prd?utm_campaign=bau&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=awin&utm_content=Communities+&+UGC&utm_term=47868&awc=483_1578666192_517362a35b0796d2da7270aa213ebabe

i ended up buying some wood and making some. albeit not the cheapest option but i could then make it to fit the space i needed. which seems quite pointless now as everything else has just been pilled infront of my shelving so they are unaccessible now

My step son used the modular ones you mentioned~a lot of shops use them
Being able to alter the heights/positions when ever you want is really useful
He got them cheap on well known auction site~2nd hand as always shops closing down or getting refurbed
His are very strong to be honest main thing is fixing them securely to the wall as the fixing would be more likely to be the weak point

I have around 8x racks in the garage (a bit overkill!) all were from storage affairs. They're very very sturdy. I've climbed up onto one to reach something and it didn't feel unsteady at all, and I've loaded some super heavy things on them too.

Pro tip though: buy a decent mallet to put them together. The ones they come with are horrid little things.

Personally if using chipboard shelving I would seal them
As a garage can be damp
And in case spill any liquid on them
Chipboard gets wet it's a pita

Seal with pva
Then whatever you like to finish
Varnish. Suitable paint etc
And wipe the edges with silicone
That's what have seen kitchen fitters do as the edges are especially vulnerable to wet

I have just gotten some of these https://www.screwfix.com/p/heavy-duty-shelving-900-x-450-x-1800mm/2817r seem pretty good so far

these look to be pretty much identical to me.

here is a screwfix 15 mins away and these look to be what im after, getting them from a shop will make any issues easier to deal with so will head there tomorrow!

thanks for the reccomendations.

The IVAR series from Ikea is great, used as outbuilding and pantry shelving and we've got a load in our office. Really cheap and sturdy, and enough combinations to be flexible (from drawers and cupboard doors to wine racks). Even their little under shelf baskets are useful.

Just secure them to the wall top and bottom and they won't budge (I usually just drill straight through the wood and secure with a rawl plug).

Those shelves come in different strenghts (loading capacity). They often come up on HUKD when there's a sale somewhere, so worth waiting if you aren't in a rush. e.g. https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/2-...ng-units-5-yr-warranty-3650-at-amazon-3363887

Bought several for my parents' garage a couple of years ago and they are so useful.
