Due to my first ever car needing repairs again to the point its not worth repairing it I put down the deposit of my first proper car at the ripe age of 34 (well im closer to 35 now). A 2017 Seat Leon 1.4L Fr Technology in red with a sunroof, which Ill be picking up on Thursday.

As any good salesman does they are trying to sell me two extras.

The first is a extended warranty as there is only a few months left on the manufacturers, I do have details on what that does cover and some T&C's are listed on there site. This is £899 for 3 years of £29pm(https://www.hartwell.co.uk/warranties/warrantytermsandconditions/) .

The other is some cleaning package for £17pm for 3 years again, which includes Diamondbrite Ceramic coating and I was told a weekly clean?

As this is my first proper car and I want to keep it tip top I'm unsure on if to go with 1 or the other both or none.

I live in flats so don't really have the space to do more much more than the basic maintenance and as I'm spent so much (or will be) I like to keep the interior and exterior as nice as possible as long as possible.

Sorry for the long post you input would be appreciated esp if anyone has dealt with Hartwell's.

Thanks in advance

That would be a no and no for me. Third party warranties are rarely worth the paper they are written on, and you can get a better paint correction and seal job from a local detailing specialist.

How much would that be btw eps as im in oxforshire? I was also looking the get the rims painted as (then I'll have the perfect little car with my name on it in my eyes). I prob should mention I'm still in my first year of driving (passed the end of April. The car is a massive upgrade to go from a 103k 2007 1.6 Diesel Ford Focus to this :)

Extended warranty with SEAT, keep servicing with SEAT.
Paint protection, usually they apply over unprepared paintwork. Avoid.
Red paintwork, once clean, some wet look wax should give it a beautiful finish.

Good idea, if it has black wheels on it'll look terrible so a repaint to silver is always a good plan.

As for warranty, extend it with Seat. It isn't expensive and the coverage and ease of us is much better.

I tired to get a online quote but the seat website wont give me one until its out of warranty, The nearest seat garage seems to be 20 mile form oxford which doesn't seem right ? while work and the place I got the car from is less than 5miles from my place.

The Red color is similar to this one with these wheels. I was thinking of black ones sometime once i get fully use to the car.

Please just don't put black wheels on. Completely pointless. Doesn't look mean, doesn't look aggressive, it just looks crap. Black wheels instantly mask any and all design cues and efforts put into the design, making them all look exactly the same - like a steelie. Furthermore, black wheels will make your tyres look brown, which is a crap look, it will expose how grey and dirty your arches are, and how rusty your rotor hats and calipers are. Ew.

Also, no to third party warranties, and a hard no to any cleaning package. If you are bothered about a long-lasting protective coating get it ceramic coated by a professional detailer.

@Steedie lives down your way and has a detailer he's a big fan of but the name escapes me

http://www.cpmdetailing.com

He's just rebranded as he's moved into a proper unit now with car lifts etc, proper impressive setup. But yeah, I love the guy, can't recommend him enough. He always does a brilliant job and you definitely get your monies worth. I get a mobile maintenance wash twice a month, £25 per wash for the outside and he'll be out there for 2-3 hours at a time doing every little detail.

My advice, don't get the paint protection through a dealer, it's terrible (if they even apply it)

The new unit is not so remote, but he's normally pretty good for dropping people off if they are close by or taking them to the station etc. You only need to go to the unit if you're doing ceramic coatings or paint correction, nearly everything else, he can come to you

I just checked, you can get the official comprehensive SEAT main dealer extended warranty for £250 a year with a £100 claim excess (£290 for zero excess) and under 10k annual miles. This will pretty much cover everything (read the T&Cs though) and if something replicatable goes wrong there should be no faffing in getting it fixed with Genuine parts at a SEAT dealer.

lol at £900 for 3 years with a 3rd party warranty.

SEAT Warranty, and keep the services with SEAT if they're not daft priced

Cleaning package... erm no lol, SEAT will normally do a quick valet if its ever in for a service or anything iirc.
Failing that 5/10 to the local ****** every now and again haha

As for the Ceramic coating, I dont thik dealers even understand how these work or how they need to be applied.
Guarantee they just splodge a load on the car without cleaning xD Again avoid

Is there a max age of cars for this /can you increase mileage? Currently i have a 3rd party warranty with arnold clark as i got a discount (plus no mileage limit) but in future if its 5 years old i may consider. I do circa 15k to 20k miles a year
