Pick up a 2nd hand 1070/1080 you shouldnt lose too much and will be a perfect stop gap. Don't spend so much now for the card to plummet in value when next gen is release
This is very good advice, a used gtx1070 is only 30% behind the 2070 super at 30% of the price.

I don't think it'll be that cheap tbh.

Can quite easily see the 3060 being £400+. People bought the 2060 at £350 by the bucketload. And we all know that in 2020, when perf goes up so does price, gen on gen.

It should be as competition from amd should help lower prices at the lower end.

I had a GTX1080 that blew up so I replaced it with a RTX 2070S and there was an amazing difference. I hadn't really expected much difference but there was. I have a 3440x1440 monitor and with the GTX 1080 it struggled with games like Monster Hunter. At ultra it was doing about 50-58fps at greater than 70 degrees C. If I tweaked the settings a bit then I could just about get it to 60fps. When I replaced it with the Gigabyte Gaming RTX 2070 S, it runs ultra settings above 60fps all the time at 54 degrees C. I mean I guess that it depends how much OP wants to spend but to me it was worth the extra money. I mean dont forget that cards usually command a good used value so all is not lost.
