Bit far for Mcmanaman to call this a team of a generation, they're a mile away from the team they were 5 or more years ago.

Indeed, one result can get blown out of proportion easily. Bayern of course are class but these results just happen occasionally, especially with such a mentally fragile team

I was pleasantly surprised when VAR didn't do the line **** on Lewandowski's shoulders and rule out a good goal just because he was leaning slightly. Premier League needs to take note.

To appease the mob of fans. Barca's magnificence came from their youth. They have basically turned into a Madrid and their "Galictico" era. Crazy to think it was only 5 years ago they won a treble.
Not sure this is true, their best team included Iniesta, Xavi, Puyol, Alves, Villa. None were young at the time. And Busquests was young but never played like it. What they had was a core of players who grew up with the club, and had all played the same style together from the age of about 8. They added to that a few players (Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Henry, Alba, Villa etc) but the core was La Masia. That's not the case any longer, and they've lost their identity. The likes of Vidal at Barca would have been unthinkable 5 years ago, not because he's bad but because he's so far removed from their style of play.

Add to that that the "pure" tiki taka has had their day. Bayern also thumped them in Pep's last season, not long after Chelsea beat them in the final, and people had learned to play against them. They need to find a new identity and develop towards it - I agree with you that at the moment they're just buying expensive players almost without a plan.

But you were fine with Wolves using an even worse example (talking about millimeters) to get past Olympiacos? What an embarrassment for English and generally European football that night was.

Arsenal always used to be accused of being 'mini-Barca', but they beat them to the 8-2 result by a good few years. Who's the trend setter now, eh, Barca?
