Hello,

As per title I'm running a 5900x + Crosshair VIII Hero (no wifi). My knowledge of RAM is quite low so please bear with me.

My current memory is CMK16GX4M2D3600C18 running at 3600 with DOCP enabled: Corsair VENGEANCELPX16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 3600 (Pc4-28800) C181.35V Desktop Memory - Black - Amazon.co.uk .

It seems pretty decent but I'd like 32gb, and preferably better CL, presumably CL 14-16. I'm not well up on the MHz speed but I understand that there's no guarantee of getting 4000MHz+ as its dependent on the individual CPU? As such I'm happy to stick with better timings and 3600.

I've studied the QVL list quite a bit, but I feel like it isn't exhaustive, and there's probably memory for sale that'd work find with DOCP on, but that doesn't appear in the list: Memory_QVL_for_AMD_Ryzen_5000_X570-4DIMM.pdf (asus.com)

Money isn't a big deal but I'd prefer not to break the bank.

I would be grateful for any recommendations.

Thanks

Just like to add to this and give you a few more options and pieces of information.

I'm running 32g of ram. 32gb (2x16gb) Kingston Hyper X Fury RGB @ 3200mhz, cl 16

This is very good ram to run at 32gb. Yes i know it is only 3200mhz. Yes i know it is only cl16. But it has a trick up it's sleeve. It is dual rank ram. It can run 2 single ranks, per stick at all times. This makes it much faster. Fyi most ram comercial ram is single rank.

It's not just that. But there is something else you havent thought of. The memory controller. Yes your memory controller can do 16gb @ 3600mhz but can it do 32gb @ 3600mhz? The more volume of ram there is, the harder the memory controller has to work. That is why im on 3200mhz. That's the 32gb sweet spot with zen 2 and 3. Yes it is possible to get the 3600mhz but it is very difficult.

Just keep that in mind when you're buying 32gb of ram.

the stated mobo can do 4 occupied slots at 3600MHz. It's not one of the gimped ASrock boards, it's a top grade ASUS one and the specs are well published. It'll do all four slots at 4500+ (OC) rock stable provided the ram can support it.

The net real world difference in cas18 to cas16 is peanuts and for most people not worth the money to swap out. Sure if you don't already own ram buy as low as you can but don't shell ££££ just to replace it with cas16. What's your use case and how much % difference would it actually make to you?

I also have a top X570 mobo and had to downgrade from 32Gb (4x8GB) to 16Gb to run at 3800Mhz so I doubt there are many Crosshair out there that could do 4 slots 4000+ ram speed!

There is also a CPU limitation for that, many can't run that fast!

My Dark Hero wont even entertain more than 3600 with 4x8 Teamgroup Xtreeme (no others to test). 3633 is next setting as well as anything higher just results in a post reboot loop. Upping soc, vdimm before hand doesn't help at all. Setting fclk to 3800/4000 boots fine though so it's not that that's limiting me. Dropping to 2x8 everything works as expected.

I've found the C8H runs 4 x 8Gb fine and actually easier than running 2 x 16Gb.

G.Skill 4266c19 and G.Skill 4400c16 both @ 3800c14.

Are those Samsung Bdie? what voltage do you apply? Amazing result! I might get out of the box my Trident 4x8GB Bdie and have another go!

Bdie at around 1.48v. The difference between them was tRCDRD. The 4266c19 was 16 and the 4400c16 at 14.

Using the Asus C8DH now have run a mix of (2x8GB) 4400c16 plus (2x8Gb) 4000c14 so 32Gb 3800c13 @ 1.56v
