My 9 year old wants to play call of duty black ops

No.

It's good that you seeked clarification from others but a game like that at this age is just a no, surprised his friends are being allowed to play such a game if they too are the same age.

Would agree with others, would be a no from me regardless how many of his friends play it.

My son is 16 and I still make sure he runs any new games he wants by me first or if he wants to play any free games in Steam.

its not just down to the game its the voice comms and chat that you need to be mindful of as well.

Last thing you want is your 9 year old son to repeat the toxic crap from people in online games like this.

Besides its got an age rating 18+

I played worse at that age and it didn't do me harm, but if I was a parent I wouldn't let them play it as it looks like this generation can't work out that you should only shoot baddies on games and not in real life.

I played RoboCop on my Megadrive as a kid. That was pretty graphic. I would have been under 10 years old for sure.

Original GTA came out in 97. I would have been 11/12 then. About the same age playing Quake, Duke Nukem and Goldeneye.

Personally as a parent it is better being open with your children and explaining things to them. If you hide them from everything when they become a teenager and are let more into the real world they will get stomped on quite quickly.

My daughter is 17 now and she plays Roblox, GTA and Fortnite. Yet she has played some edgy games earlier.

She is at college, got a boyfriend and is doing her driving test in a month. She is even looking for a weekend job. Completely normal for her age. Way more mature than I ever was.

I played and completed Deadspace 3 coop with my daughter in her early teens. She understands it isn't real and we had a father daughter bonding moment playing coop together.

My son is now 5 and has started playing Super Metroid which to some might be considered a little edgy but it is 1994 cartoon graphics. A lot of his kids at school are glued to their tablets yet my son hasn't nor will have a tablet/phone at least until he starts secondary school.

Computer games never have or never will be the problem. Social media and online protection on the other hand are big big issues that need the up most care.

I'm sorry to be harsh. But this is rated as an 18yo game. It should be illegal for someone under 18 to buy or play it.

It's because people are blurring lines that adults are having to play dumbed down games.

This particular game is very realistic. It's not like when we were growing up playing with obvious cartoon and polygon graphics.

I would be suggesting other games. There are many immersive games around these days.

9 is a little bit late to start Murdering realistic looking 1960/70s Chinese/Vietnamese and Russian soldiers.

Maybe you can get your next kid in earlier.

Not sure if original post is legit, or whether they are refering to Black Ops 6 but its rated by PEGI as 18, so i would definately consider 9 too young, especially if voice comms are active.

Not to say PEGI ratings are the be all and end all and the childs maturity is probably more relevant, i would still think 9 is far too young.

Stick to splatoon or fortnite at that age. And Shame on his friends parents for allowing kids his age to play it if they are
