9070 XT - 2x HDMI high refresh displays (144 and 120 Hz) not working

The plot thickens.

The Adrenalin software will not load at all in v25.11.1 when the HDMI cable is plugged into the motherboard (to use a second display via the iGPU, with the main display connected to the GPU). As soon as you unplug the HDMI from the motherboard, the software loads!

Thank God for Reddit for discovering this issue:

After all these issues, I remember now why I used to pay more for NVIDIA GPUs. But I am conflicted, as I do not want NVIDIA to dominate / become a monopoly even more than they already are

Exactly my issue. Pretty sure it's related to the two driver paths as this never used to happen.

Thanks. you saved me with this post.
I was going to update, but decided to wait a while....

If only AMD could iron out the small kinks...

They are getting there. Look at what they did to Intel. Though Nvidia is a harder beast to crack.

NVidia also had major issues with the 50 series and software.

AMD would do well to address this issue, but having gone the other way (6800 XT to 5080) Nvidia have their own multi-display quirks.

My setup is a 34" UW via HDMI 2.1 and a 27" 1440p via DP and keep having issues with Windows not saving my preference for hidden task are, and sometimes games launching on the 27" despite it not being set as primary. Could argue it's a Win11 update but the old card is in my wife's system and I'm yet to reproduce the problem when using it.

A mate of mine also has a 34" UW and C2 (DP/HDMI respectively) and has no end of issues with the TV when using both, running on a 3080.

I hope the issue gets fixed for you!

im going to say this isnt an amd only thing
my previous two gpus [nvidia quaddro m4000 and 3060 12gb] both had this same issue
the quaddro in fact would actually overheat and die fairly fast if you didnt notice it and turn the system fans up when the second screen was turned on [from memory ]
this card is a fair bit worse for it though but im assuming htats because its significantly more powerfull than the previous 2 cards and im running a higher res etc now

Finally replaced my old Panasonic plasma with an LG G5. Connect everything, setting up display settings and run into this issue. I was losing my mind with drivers exchanging cables etc. and then I find this problem on the forums. Its mind-boggling to me how this is not working as it should (on my ''server'' with a poor RTX 3050 6GB everything works). I also had problems with occasional monitor signal loss randomly (every few hours) and now I know what the problem was - second display connected (HDMI) to an AV receiver with a 1080p60 TV.
I buy the Gigabyte card specifically for 2x HDMI ports - can only use one at HDMI 2.1 speed
I try to use the iGPU for second HDMI - I said great I have full 2.1 support but then I get a weird freeze, driver crash, games not loading, can't open Adrenalin with iGPU display turned on, have to find a buck ton of troubleshooting on the net.
DP 2.1 to HDMI 2.1 adapters don't exist. DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter have one issue or another - and frankly I don't want to use DSC.
So the only solution that I have is to buy a 5070 TI and not just any card but an ASUS TUF, which is currently 250eur more than what I paid for my card. Or to switch cable plugs every time I want to play games on one display or the other.

I don't know how to feel about this whole situation. I am angry, sad and disappointed in AMD or the board partners or whoever made this HDMI implementation.

This rounds off our sentiments really well

if sapphire had just used 3 display port instead of 2 and 2 hdmi if they had just put 3 display ports on this card all of my problems would not exist to start off with its that stupid really
next gen i will make sure whatever card i get has 3 display ports and i don't care if it has a single hdmi for all i care i just need 3 display ports that would totally fix my issues. Otherwise
though [actually I've had some of the rgb fail on me and I'm not sure what to do on that either tbf] so other than that and the rgb failing recently i do really like the card otherwise.

Anyone tried with the latest drivers. saw someone mentioned the IGPU issue is resolved. wondering if any other improvements.

i have 165hz monitor and 75hz monitor. on sapphire pulse i tried both DP, 1 dp 1 x hdmi. but any configuration seems to run memory clock at 2505 constantly. tried custom resolutions etc but cant seem to get it to downclock

I can confirm this issue is still not fixed with the 25.12.1 (December 2025) drivers!

Do not install them if you have your second high refresh rate monitor connected to the iGPU! - You will not be able to bring up the AMD Adrenaline software, a bug that was introduced with 25.11.1 (November 2025).

Honestly, AMD?

It is somehow not even listed as a 'Known Issue' in the driver release notes, so I have no idea when (if?) it will be fixed.

Also, AMD Audio Noise Suppression still does not open. That has been an issue for most of the year.

I am going back (again) to 25.10.2 (October 2025).

@AMD_Vik, are you possibly able to let the driver team know about this issue we are having?

Having two high resolution high refresh rate monitors both connected to HDMI ports I'm obviously hitting the bandwidth issue.
I've worked around this by turning my 2nd monitor down to either 120Hz 4:2:0 colour format or 60Hz 4:4:4.
My issue now is that the card does seem to remember which of the two ports it will let use all of the bandwidth. Some days monitor 1 is fine and other times it gets limited to 60Hz Full RGB (which looks awful for some reason) even though the second monitor is only doing 120Hz 4:2:0 or 60Hz 4:4:4 (60Hz Full RGB looks awful on this monitor too).
This means even my workaround isn't guaranteed to work. Even a restart doesn't fix it, you have to power off the PC and turn it on again until the right port gets the full bandwidth.

I'm not sure if this would still be an issue if the 2nd monitor was only something like 1080p 60Hz, if it's just the fact both HDMI ports are used or if both monitors need to be capable of using more bandwidth than is available.

I couldn't get 3 monitors to work on an Nvidia 4090. 2 at 240hz and a LG C4 at 144hz I ended up using the motherboard igpu for 1 of them. So it's not just AMD. If I'm reading this.right?

My monitors don't go as high as 240Hz so I can't test that, but my 4060Ti does 2 x HDMI 4K @ 120Hz RGB just fine, my 7900XT and 9070XT don't.

So.... Just made an account specifically for this. Owner of a 9070xt gigabyte. I am using 2 dp ports and as of today, both hdmi ports. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't run my tvs on 4k 120hz/144hz with hdr on. I specifically bought this card because it features 2 hdmi 2.1 ports and there was absolutely no information that you can't use both of them and get maximum bandwidth at the same time.

I can use 1 of them at 4k, 10bpc, rgb 444, 144hz hdr and the other at 4k, 8bpc, ycbcr 420,120hz, no hdr. Now I wouldn't really mind that if there was a simple way to god damn change between them and set which one gets the full bandwidth as I do not use them at the same time.

But no, even if I set them both at 1080p or lower I cannot change the one I want to use as the full bandwidth monitor in the settings (adrenaline or otherwise)and give it the full bandwidth. I need to restart the whole pc and HOPE that I will get the full bandwidth in the one I actually want to use (like a Russian roulette) everytime. Sometimes it will work, sometimes not (hey, 50-50 chance that's something I guess). What I found is that it kinda (?) helps setting the one you want to use as primary and then restart, in the other hand it may be a placebo.

Unplugging the hdmi cable and leaving only the one I need to use everytime obviously is not a solution as eventually the connector will fail. Any inputs? Is there something I am missing here, I understand that there is no way to use both hdmi 2.1 and that's fine but not being able to manually set which one you want to use, having to restart pc and hope you get the right one is unacceptable.

I said goodbye AMD and bought a TUF 5070Ti. Got it for ~800eur with some cashback and current promotion. I am not happy about it, but I am glad that everything works now.

Absolute pain in the **** but have you considered an external hdmi switch? That way the PC will only see one monitor, and might save you much hassle, without wearing the connections out.
