EV general discussion

My wife always used to shout at me when I would drive our petrol cars until they were in the red zone, EV ownership seemed to cure me of that for some reason, even though having a percentage charge level is more accurate than eye balling when the needle starts to stop moving to the left!

I see some of the Renault range has been upgraded from the smaller EV grant to the larger one. If only i'd waited a few more weeks to order it.....meh, by the time i'd waited and paid any order penalty it probably doesn't make too much difference anyway.
So I got in touch with NHSFleet to ask if it would make a difference to the R5 I’ve got in order, they’ve come back with £6 a month discount! Better than nothing I suppose!

Albeit I have reasons, but I can't remember the last time any of my vehicles were below half a tank aside from one time around 2021 when there was fuel shortages and I got down to a quarter tank on one. The extra weight isn't the most economical but still.

A full 60 litre tank weighs about 45-50 kg depending on type of fuel and temperature.

Compared to the weight of the average car, it’s really not making any reasonable difference to the economy.

Not enough to have made me drive around on 1/4 tank at any point in my life, anyway…

Yeah somewhere around 2% difference but still. Off the top of my head I think mine are in the range of 65-80L.

I just don't like petrol stations so I'd be one of those who let it get towards the red zone before I'd reluctantly go and fill up, just to minimise the number of trips I had to make a year

Just done some maths and I will be paying an extra £25 a week compared to now. Not the end of the world but considering Octopus we’re signing people up last week with no notification of this change it does feel a little bit of a con.

It’s allegedly always been a part of the terms and conditions which no reads and written in as a fair use policy.

I couldn’t say first had that it was when I signed up because I didn’t read them.

Edit: it looks like the drive pack tariff is discontinued.

Wayback machine says the 6 hour fair usage part has been there since at least April 2023.

Just seen that Ohme are apparently going to be releasing an update to change the throttling behaviour before this comes into force in Jan.

That’s good as mine likes to charge in longer lower power chunks sometimes.

Yay, got the invoice through for my VED today.

At £234 (inc. VAT) it's the most I've had to pay for any car I've owned, including plenty of dirty diesels and some nice thirsty petrols. Going back to killing polar bears is becoming more tempting every day

Must have missed the launch of the Model Y "standard" in the UK - £41999
- No pan roof, just a 'closed sunroof'
- Rear display removed (still has air vents, they are just manual)
- Headlights are basic LED
- Seats are textile/vegan leather mixed
- No front ventilated seats
- Battery is 66kwh vs 75kwh+ on LR models - Still good enough for 314 miles range
- No interior ambient lighting
- Manually adjustable Steering Wheel
- Centre console is reduced
- FSD are replaced with normal shocks

Definitely heading in the right direction, everything else is included.. £40k would have been nice as that would have been epic value compared to entry level SUVs like the Enyaq
