Buy now or hope bubble bursts?

Instead of worrying about this, I just pulled the trigger and treated myself to a new 4K monitor instead, sod worrying about RAM/SSD inflation :D

Feel like this is going to be one of those market staying irrational longer than you can stay solvent situations. If you need ram/a computer right now and you can afford it then you should buy it. You've no idea how long this madness will go on for and not only could you be waiting years but it can certainly get worse.

I'm not convinced it will come though, unless there's some kind of leap in technology.

Data centres aren't going anywhere

The demand for their absurd expansion could though. The true value of the tech is wildly overblown and promises of returns aren't even based on what the tech looks like right now but what it could look like in some theoretical future. There's a reason they're running out of private money and trying to rope in governments to back it.

That said, as I say above, market remaining irrational longer than you can stay solvent == if you need a PC now, buy it now. It could still get worse before it gets better, and if you think you can wait it out you might be in for a horrible shock even in 3 years time.

Crazy prices!

If it was me I would wait especially as of (today Dec 8th 2025) the prices seem doungle to triple of what is in the orginal post.

The knock on effect will be other components like Motherboards sould drop in price as people hold off. So if I people are thinking of going AM5 or Intel DDR5 motherboards could drop in price.

I think the days of cheap computers/ tech are over, even if global chip shortage improves the demand for copper is increasing. Heading into the 2030's potential copper demand could outstrip supply having a knock on effect on everything.

If China invades Taiwan all bets are off. The economic situation will likely become very dire, to point the price of PC components will one of the last concerns in people lives. Swaths of industries and whole markets will collapse.

Its insane for the cost of memory.

December 2024 I paid £89.99 for these, now £299

I paid £194 for the same, but 64gb (2x32gb) in January 2025, crazy, I might take it out soon, and do swapsy with someone for a 5090.

Pretty dire all round, sad times for PC in general with these silly prices.

Its terrible, looking on the OCUK site the stock availability is also terrible and hardly any in stock and if they are they prices are so high I would not be touching them.

Had a few people put off doing a PC upgrade now due to ram prices.

On top of that the kit I originally posted is now £399.99 so its gone up another £100 since I posted that lol

Yeah I noticed most in stock similar to what I have are the RGB versions only now, and they are around the £800 mark!
So yeah prices gone up even more.

I was looking to do a AM5 build guess Ill wait until 2030 now :(

Same, though I was going to be doing a component each month, rather than buy all together so maybe the RAM prices will come down a bit by March or April.

I'm not optimistic of that happening to be honest, my luck was bound to run out at some point. Going back as far as the RX480 I have been getting lucky with pricing, making purchases just days before the prices rapidly rise lol.
