Watching F1 in the UK via Sky/Now or ‘other’ methods

I pay £6.99 a month for F1TV which I think is amazing value. I've had this for a few years from memory so didn't realise it had gone up so much. But even so, last time I priced Sky up I think it was more than £50 a month
It stopped working for me in 2024.
F1TV pro is the limit I'd pay for f1. But I would pay it.

Why do we get so shafted in this country for F1?

I'm never paying for a full sky sports subscription to watch F1 so they are just losing money from me (and many others, as I know a lot of fans that feel the same way).

In the US you can pay for F1 TV pro or even from next year watch it on Apple TV.

Yet in the UK we are just stuck with "you must pay for all sports or nothing". It's silly.

You can get the Sky F1 channel on its own if you have Sky Stream but it’s not much cheaper than getting full Sky Sports.

If you see the state of sports tv access in the USA you wouldn’t be saying it’s silly in the UK.

It’s fragmented beyond belief with adverts frequently interrupting events.

Yup, we get better indycar coverage than they do! When it's on Sky F1, we just get periods of silence every four or five laps, which is when they switch away to adverts over there.

Many would say that the experience is improved by the periods of silence as well ;)

This is sadly so true. Trying to follow US Football, or god forbid Hockey, 'byzantine' doesn't do it justice.

People complain about adverts here but we have the whole of the Grands Prix without ads, we have each half of football without ads too. When Sky show the Indycar races they have Tom Gaymor filling in for three or four Ad breaks the US have and if you're lucky we get one or two an hour, often none. On some networks and shows in the US you don't even get a notification of an ad break. You could walk into the kitchen and come back and wonder who these people are, only to realise it's an Ad. Sure, no one likes Ads, but the UK does pretty well with major restrictions on how many and how long.

Which is why its alarming that ITV just trialled adds in screen during the rugby last night.

Would not be surprised to see our sports coverage turn into the awful American ad fest version over the next few years.

It's the way you have to have everything to have sky. A TV licence, a sky subscription, a sky sports subscription.

If you just want to watch f1... F1 TV is amazing... But it's locked away due to stupid rights issue.
That's what we like to moan about.

I'll pay for f1... I will not pay for sky + sky sports just for f1

Would I pay 10 pounds a month for f1? Yes.
Would i pay how ever much for all the above for f1? No.

How much would that even be? 15 a month for TV licence, then, what? 30 a month for sky?

Still paying £5.99 a month for F1 TV Pro and have done since March 2023. I know there was the hiccup for the Belgian GP in 2023, but I re-subbed after that weekend and it's been fine since.

I honestly think when they banned VPN users that weekend, they lost that many subscriptions they thought "Ouch, we can't sustain this money loss" and quietly removed the VPN ban.

This.

Watching F1 live in the UK is far too cosy prohibitive. If I could just pay £5 - £10 a month (haven't decided my limit yet, but somewhere around that) just to watch F1 I would do it.

But with a TV license and either a Sky package or the expensive NOW TV sorts subscription, you are talking at least around £500 or more a year just to watch live F1 which is silly. I enjoy it, but not that much.

So I'll stick to channel 4 catch up highlights, and if they stop those then it will be no more F1 for me.

I hope F1 realises what the likes of the UFC has done with Paramount and look at a similar deal for F1.
As its far too restrictive and costly currently.

Back to my wonderful streams until it becomes sensible.

Same.
I'd pay about 10 a month I think. I'm happy to not have it live as most races are middle of day when I'm outdoors anyway.

F1TV was so good for this.

I have no qualms about accessing it from other sources. Because I only do this due to the sky lockout.

Now has been great so far. Only downside is that I couldn’t find the sprint to replay when I wanted to watch it after qualifying. Not sure if actual sky f1 had it available. Tiny tiny delay on it too.

So interestingly enough my Dad tried NOW for the first time these two last races. He lives abroad and is visiting. Used F1TV previously and was used to it.

He was complaining because with NOW you can basically only stream live, is that right? You can't start watching on a delay/catchup?

And he said that trying to watch the China sprint afterwards - it wasn't available until Ch4 had shown the highlights? Is that right? So basically if you miss it live on NOW, you're stuck?

Can’t comment on live rewinding, but no, the replay didn’t seem to be available in any kind of reasonable time. They still only had sprint quali and practice 1 available.

I was having similar issues with my old Sky HD+ box last year. Recording would fail, nothing there on catch-up. I'd email them to complain, get some gaslit answer a couple hours after it had appeared probably a day late.

That HD+ died just after Christmas and they don't support them anymore, so ended up getting a Q one fitted. Took 2 months and a missed appointmen though. ‍♂️
