I've purchased:
1. ASUS 5070 Ti Prime OC GPU
2. Acer Predator Vesta II RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
3. Corsair RM1000x (2024) 1000 W Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

I plan on buying a 9950X ideally but could settle for a 9900X. I do have an unopened and unused BQ Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler that I could use if AM4 & AM5 coolers are compatible and if it will do the trick.

The remaining components i have my eye on are:
My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,277.77 (includes delivery: £0.00)
Please could those in the know offer advice on the remaining items and what they would change? I wouldn't mind a sound card too if it gets rid off the popping and clicking at low volumes on my Pebble V3 speakers.
Budget is £1500 for the remaining items. Im primarily using this PC for CAD (Inventor and AutoCAD) and photo editing. Occasional downtime on games like Satisfactory and Planet Crafter to be factored in.

Motherboard: TUF Plus has a good spec for running a higher-end CPU, so I'd only change it if you want USB4. Note the lack of optical/SPDIF on the rear I/O. I wouldn't bother with a sound card until you have tried the board.
SSDs: PCI-E 5.0 doesn't offer much benefit for the most part, but considering you're paying a lot already (due to the price increases lately) I think a drive like Crucial's T710 is worth considering.

Review here:

I assume none of your software needs CUDA/nvidia?

Thanks Tetras, I will have a look at the Crucial SSD.
No the software doesn't really need CUDA but benefits from it in some situations. Autodesk products tend to prefer Nvidia graphics though. I almost bought the 9070XT but really needed the reliability, so went for the 5070 Ti.

Regarding the mobo, is that you giving the nod for the one I picked?

So you don't need a graphics card? Bit confused about it being in the basket.

Yes, with the caveats I mentioned. I consider the TUF Plus similar to MSI's Tomahawk Max, but that has gone up and the TUF-Plus gone down a little. The Tomahawk does have SPDIF/optical, an extra M.2 slot and 5Gb LAN (versus 2.5).

Oops, that must have been there since last time. Should have checked first. Ignore gpu I have bought one. I'll edit original post.

The gen 5 crucial ssd is a no for me. No real benefit for the £120+ price difference to the Samsung

Unless I'm being a dumb, the difference is £20.
I thought i could get hold of the Samsung for £130ish but turns out oos.Yeah if the price difference is marginal and the stability/reliability is better then I'll definitely go for gen5.

Neither of those.

It is all about the speeeeeeeeeeeeeed. It is just that for most use cases the difference is very marginal and it won't be noticed. For £20 though..., I'd take it.

I have the cheaper X670E GAMING PLUS WIFI and have found it to be a good motherboard with my 9900x, I liked the idea of a second 4x PCIe slot which is ideal for my RAID card, I don't get full bandwidth but good enough for storage. The board is stable and the BIOS is mature now.

So this is what I went with in the end. My full build:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 4.4 GHz 12-Core Processor £349.99
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 77 CFM AIO £84.99
Motherboard: MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 £309.99
Memory: Acer Predator Vesta II RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 £401.00
Storage (Gen 5): KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS G4 2 TB NVME £154.99
Storage (Gen 4): Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 7300 2 TB NVME £129.99
Video Card: Asus PRIME OC GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB £720.00
Case: Lian Li Lancool 207 ATX Mid Tower Case £64.99
Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x (2024) 1000 W Fully Modular ATX £134.99

---TOTAL ESTIMATED COST£2,350.93

So I still haven't built this due to work commitments. All the components are in my office and every time I look at the PC case (Lian Li Lancool 207) I feel it is too big...

On paper it doesn't seem much bigger than the Meshify C I have at the moment, but looking at them side by side it's huge..

Can anyone recommend a case that would fit this new build? The Meshify C won't fit the cooler and GPU together unfortunately or I'd stick with that. It's a lovely case.

Think you're going to struggle to find a smaller mid tower that will fit the Arctic 360mm AIO as it only just fits in the 207.

Only options other than getting used to a bigger case i think you have is to go with a 240mm AIO (not sure a 280mm will fit) or a air cooler.

Personally, i would stick with the 207 as it looks like a nice case.

EDIT

A video to show building in that case with the 360mm AIO.

The problem is the arctic your going to struggle change to something else.

207 is one of the smaller ATX-compatible cases, so if that's too big I think you'd have to switch to MATX or ITX, which would probably mean dumping the AIO.

There is the A3, but not sure how it compares on dimensions and if the Freezer would fit.

I'd say you're more limited by the full size ATX board than the AIO. I've just built a system in the Phanteks XT M3 - small footprint, plenty of room for a 360 AIO and chonky GPU, just in m-ATX form.
I used the Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX ICE and didn't find it lacking.
