Looks like he had a shotgun with him as well for backup, his belt is filled with cartridges. I think the guy who got disarmed was also using a shotgun.

A shot from a .308 at short to medium distance is going to do some pretty significant damage to a person, the damage you could do firing into a large crowd would be large with all the penetration/ricochets. Plus it looks built for speed with the straight pull action so it's no wonder the death toll is sadly so high.

Police not looking for third offender - as gunmen revealed to be father and son​

I would say, you gotta be absolutely sick in the head to take out a rifle like that and start shooting people on a beach that were just trying to live their lives.

I don't care what thet believe in or how hard done by the feel, the thought of doing what they did is absolutely sickening, and those people are animals not humans.

I understand the anger behind the sentiment, but as soon as you start dehumanising people… well, you get what I mean. It’s not a good path!
