Please can you recommend a new set of headphones for PC gaming

Ah sorry mate, yeah I did miss-read.

I've re-read what you said in your origonal post above and based on your advice I've been looking at the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro/X which I can see for £189.99, I think that's a good price for me and the reviews seem really good so I think I’m going to go ahead and order those ones. They seem to tick all the boxes so fingers crossed they’re a good replacement over my existing “Creative Aurvana Live Headphones”.

Thanks again for all your help, as well as everyone else that contributed to the thread, much appreciated!

No worries and hope you enjoy them.

Again just to be clear you can get the original/classic DT 770 for £130 (in three different impedance versions), where as the newer DT 770 Pro X are £190. These have the removable cable and newer Stellar.45 driver. They are also easier to drive and not as fussy about an amp.

HD560S, they've on deal for £99.99 at the moment. Otherwise, The HD598 if you can get it for £70. X2HR is fine, but I found it a bit too heavy for long periods. I actually use the Philips SHP9500 at the moment, which can be had for peanuts, easily the most comfortable pear of headphones I've ever tried. Sound is a bit on the trebly side.
do the 560s come with a 3.5 normal jack ? or do you have to buy it ? as its a quarter inch normal.

It should be a convertible 6.3mm to 3.5mm - though I think there are 2-3 different revisions of the connector - the ones I've used the back of the 6.3mm unscrews to expose a 3.5mm jack but I believe some are different in how it is implemented.

cheers thinking of getting a pair. its a bit tricky at the £100 range for headphone. tried the beyer pro 770s everyone raves about not even good sent back. ideally prefer usb tbh.

Lets not rule out the legendary HD600 or HD650 from Sennheiser or HDB 630 maybe a little above your price range if you want wireless and closed. You need to consider what you want out of a headphone though. Perhaps, and I appreciate it is really hard, go and audition some.

As much as I love my HD600 series they wouldn't be my first choice for gaming purposes, at least not anything competitive/online - though I do sometimes like using them for immersive single player experiences (Subnautica works pretty well with them).

Get the 990s if you want open backed. I’m a bit of a Beyer fanboy, I have 990s, 900 pro x and the 1990 pro mk2. There’s something about the Beyer sound which just hits for me.

I've never used a beyer headset perhaps I need to try one always lived in the Sennheiser camp until I picked up my Hifiman's. I think what you said though is the important part and you need to hear things for yourself as we all hear differently. The older you get the less frequency range you hear as well.

I’d definitely try them if you’re a senn fan as that’s pretty much where I came from.

So without totally hijacking.. what would be the go to beyer's then if I liked my 650's.
Oh now you’re putting me on the spot! I mean they’re great headphones, if I was to change I’d have to put my hand in my pocket and go for the DT1990s.

Until I got my Sennheiser HD800S and Hifiman Arya Stealth my DT1990s were my goto gaming headphone, they are semi-closed back and isolate fairly well and imaging is very sharp - the DT990s are boxed up in the cupboard, just not in the same league. My HD650 Sennys were never any good for gaming due to their three blob effect imaging, would not recommend.

I highly recommend the Beyerdynamic MMX 330 PRO, I've had these for around 7-8 years and the only reason I'm having to change is because I somehow managed to break it. Otherwise it's exceptional build quality, exceptional sound and very reliable.

I have been using the Sennheiser HD599Se for gaming for the last 5 years and I absolutely love them. they are open back also. Only issue I have is the leather band has started to disintegrate leaving black bits of leather, or plastic whatever it is on my head after playing!
