NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Having read that news is it worthwhile getting a 5080 now and sell my 3080 ti? The card is doing me well but not sure if it will be upto the task this time next year

I made that same upgrade a couple of months ago. The 5080 is great, but I am not sure I really notice a massive difference. I think if someone swapped me back to my old card in the middle of the night it would be months before I noticed. But … I wanted to future proof a little given all the market chaos and I was a little suspicious about shortages. Comes down to what games you play, how sensitive you are to lower frame rates or lower graphics details, and how your personal finances are.

Enjoying my 5080FE, had to upgrade my PSU (got a Lian Li Edge 1300W)... now I'm thinking I need to upgrade my 5800X... but that means mobo, cpu and ram, and that's a faff especially as I need at least 64GB for video editing (my job). On the lookout for a 5950X in the meantime.

Has @Worthy given in to temptation yet?
I have not! It’s under the tree but I finish for Christmas on Friday, I think I’ll end up cracking over the weekend.

Only way I’ll make it to Christmas Day is if going out drinking on Friday and then attempting to stay up to watch the boxing wipes me out for the weekend and I can’t be arsed messing with tech stuff.

Thanks guess I'll hang fire and wait until I adsolurly want to upgrade

Fair play managing to resist for this long, many others wouldn't have.
Still, it'll make it all the sweeter come the the time.
Who am I kidding
Haha, I’d have caved ages ago if I wasn’t replacing a 4090 with it. 4090 will go in the downstairs PC for some Christmas sofa gaming. I’m playing Chrono Trigger on it at the moment though so the 3080 is coping fine with a 1995 SNES game :p

I dont buy the whole RAM cost being the problem as it never stopped them during covid or the mining booms passing the extra cost onto consumers and lets be honest theres a market of people that will pay it.

They also did this multiple times over the years by denying rumours/leaks that cards where on the way and to be released in the next few months and a bunch of people fold and buy a card then the rumours of the upcoming cards where true all along.

IMO in this case the 5070/5070ti/5080 Supers and the whole we've cutting production is a part of that.

My dumb take is that the whole we've cutting production is the 5070/5070ti/5080 Supers are a few months away and the cutting production will technically be true as the 5070/5070ti and 5080 will be cut. ;)

yeah just limit production drive price up bingo. sad for consumers. also in a time when most people wont be buying em after christmas..i guess it will depend on when it hits and when shops wanna start gouging prices. :(
