Winter 2025/2026 - Cold or Mild?

Drive to work was horrendous with the roads like rivers , fields at saturation point , yellow warning of rain , yep it's here

Berghaus waterproofs on the shopping cycle today. I'll let the traffic due down a little first though.

Have barely needed the heating on so far this year. Having also pushed some heating onto the night tariff that then holds throughout most of the day. I think our ‘winter’ bills have only risen by about £10-20 so far. So not complaining!

Thought the rain was going to be worse, aside from the odd heavy shower and one very heavy stint around 8pm we didn't get the forecast hours of heavy rain.

Quite a temperature drop here tonight - it has quite rapidly dropped to freezing with a heavy fog building up - glad I'm not just driving home as I would be some nights.

GFS operational sort of going the right way, this morning's update a bit more erratic but largely similar to last night, but a lot of spread in the ensembles:

New Year is actually looking quite cold on a number of charts, though overall I'm not really seeing the driver for anything particularly wintery despite some not very robust high pressure blocking building.

Met Office on recent video said we are looking at most blocked patterns to our north over Christmas period in 45 years

Tease - still quite a spread but leaning towards more wintery stuff, looks like it'll just miss Christmas. (3 out of 20 runs have light snow over the south on the evening of the 25th).

Cold start. That said, I had to use weedkiller on the drive this week, I’ve never had to do that in December. Plenty of spring plants trying to grow. Looks like it goes colder next week though.

Only one week to go for are local Boxing Day dip
Not sure if am crazy enough to handle that cold water :o:cry:

Brace yourselves, winter is finally coming!

Last day in double figues max day temperature and overnight lows are going to not be much above 0C before windchill, at least here in Hampshire.

You realise Winter only started yesterday?

I will be honest I have no idea how the temp feels, I've not got out of bed for 3 days due to man flu and sweating my ass off.
Least I can work from my laptop in bed.
