Microprose and Geoff Crammond are working on re-releasing that classic Formula 1 sim series as GCR1, 2, 3 and 4 (Geoff Crammond Racing) sometime in 2026.

This is why I followed Micropose on Twitter/X in the hope they would one day re-release this series. Not only are they finally doing this but with Geoff Crammond's involvement too! I missed GP1 but spent so much time, too much probably, on GP2, 3 and 4.

Loved gp 3 & 4

Played it for hours, had a joystick great times.

That said though, I shan't be buying it, I just feel that sometimes these things should stay in the past.

Seems there's another game that's recently been announced and some people think it is convenient that Microprose announce GCR series within a few weeks of the other new game.

I can't remember which I played GP2 and 4 I think. We had a lan game in the office every lunch time for a long time, using keyboard and onboard graphics. Good times.

Wonder if the GCR games will work with an Xbox controller or perhaps even be Steam Machine with the Steam Controller being a better bet than an Xbox controller?

Grand Prix Manager, now we’re talking!!
I remember buying GPM2 from WHSmith in 1996. It came with a VHS of the F1 1996 season review.

Loved those sims but Grand Prix Legends was always the pinnacle.
I'd forgotten about that one. Get the toe-in even a tiny bit wrong and the car was undriveable in anything other than a straight line - TBF they weren't exactly very driveable even when you had it setup perfectly :D

Re the GP1-4 series - used to play GP2 with a mate on a Sunday. Few beers, serial cable, great fun. Looked forward to GP3 as it'd be easier to play over a LAN. I remember we were both hugely disappointed with the netcode on that as it was actually worse than a serial cable!

I don't remember doing anything other than playing the demo of GP4. By that point in time F1 was a borefest and I got into Eve Online which eats your life up and spits it out the other side ;)

I played GP1, GP2, and GP3 loads, so this will be an instant buy. I only recently picked up GP4 and haven’t really given it a proper go yet. Not long ago, I tried getting GP3 to run on my Windows XP retro machine, but no luck - it’s a known issue. It’s one of those old-school games (like Colin McRae 1) that really needs a Windows 98 setup.

I recently fired up GPL again, hooked up my Microsoft Sidewinder wheel, and gave it a go after 23 years. Back in the day, I used custom setups from the GPL community, but this time I stuck with the defaults. Wow, it’s brutal - after a few laps I jumped into a race, but racing the AI is tough. You’re so focused on keeping the car on track that even the slightest bump sends you spinning into the scenery.

I’d love to see Papyrus sims make a comeback, especially IndyCar Racing 2 and the NASCAR series.

GP1 on the amiga was goat, just for the music intro alone!

I fired up GPL a few years back and was shocked to see all the online stuff still active and managed to access my old gplrank account, days of hitting those times are long gone but fair play to the community for keeping it alive, that game just shy of 3 decades old now!

Played REVS to death, even though it had only 1 track (Silverstone) and on a BBC Micro keyboard! I know I'm old but good god that was 41 years ago! Then went through every one of GCs later games. I fear this will just be a nostalgia cash grab though..

The first time I played GPL I was convinced something was wrong with the wheel so I kept recalibrating it :D

Your custom setups comment reminded me I still have a file with the GP2 optimal setups. Game hasn't been near any of my machines in nearly quarter of a century but Documents folder goes back 30 years now so its still there.
