hello everyone!

I've been away for a long time but recently got BF6 and its really really brought my love for PC gaming back!
so i have been playing and also debating if my sound setup could be better, now im no audiophile so i have no idea what's good and what is not.
i currently have a soundblaster G6 paired with Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R headphones, could i do better for gaming? and general sound quality?
i guess the next question is budget... now again i am really not sure, i am all about value if im honest, i dont mind spending extra if its truly worth it you know?

if you need any more info/details to advise then please ask!

thanks all :)

It depends.

The headphone and DAC/AMP you have is already quite capable for gaming. For music you definitely could improve your setup, but it'll depend on budget.

So first question is how much is that budget, and is gaming the priority?

The Creative SBX G6 is quite a capable little DAC/AMP, but the biggest complaint is likely to be its dependency on software and drivers. And it's software isn't the most up to date from Creative (i.e. not using their App) but is still more than enough.

Personally (and I guess it depends on what type of gaming), I think what you have would be about all you need. The Tygr (for FPS gaming in particular) are very good still (I often return to them for the likes of Battlefield etc). I'd save the money for more games!

Music is a different case of course so as others have said, it depends on what your ultimate priority is.

You can easily spend a lot of money on a proper audio system, however it depends on how the game/OS sends that audio out- it's not like a movie soundtrack, or years ago where the game suppoerted EAX.

I can move my PC downstairs to the AV pre power 9.3.4 system, and it'll sound fantastic, but it would be using DTS:X/DSU sound expansion rather than "proper" discrete channels from the game engine itself, correctly placing real time effects like enemy to left rear ...

Unless using soundcard 5.1 analogue output, thereby that's when the game does it's own channel sound mapping?

I think that's well said. In that the TYGR 300R is still a really good headphone for gaming. I swap between it and the PC38X. For a while those are the only two in my rotation.

I think that's why I zeroed in on the SBX G6 as there are newer options, albeit they might not be needed.

Yea totally agree - doesn't need to change anything but I'd also probably just switch out the G6 (as great as it is) if I really wanted a bit of a refresh - much prefer the Fosi K7 I have now (as a gaming device) :)

I've had about 3 sets of Tygr and always regretted selling them so keeping this 3rd set :p

Ditto. Not quite as bad, sold it once and re-bought a new pair earlier this year. Familiar and comfortable.
