Not looking good for Isak after the Spurs game, talk is of a serious lower injury which will keep him out for a long time as a result (although think this was likely either way) Liverpool may well bid for Antoine Semenyo.

I hear there's this kid, can play pretty much across the front line, player of the tournament at the U21 Euros that is unwanted at his loan club. He'd be a great recruit.

Wont get a start as the manager doesnt like him, he much prefers Cody 'love child' Gakpo, who will be back from injury and straight into the team just after xmas..

Lets be honest, thats 3 managers that havent 'liked' Harvey, Klopp and Emery are top top managers and if he hasnt thrived under them, then there is some other issue.

There's a lot more to him not playing at Villa then just talent. Hes clearly a good player and probably needs to come back in Jan.

Agreed. From what I've read it was the Sporting Director that pushed to sign him at Villa but Emery wasn't so sure. Then there's the players and system that Emery is using and I don't think Emery trusts him to do what he wants and clearly prefers players ahead of him in these positions. Then there's the fee if he plays a certain number of games, which I believe is ten games and £35m which is quite a lot for someone unfancied by the Manager.

What mystifies me is why Aston Villa don't just speak to Harvey and Liverpool and an agreement from all three parties be brought up so Harvey can come home. Given the dearth of attacking players we currently have, and Harvey's love for the club I'm sure he'd love to come back, and he'd likely get more game time at Liverpool than he's getting at Villa right now. What's happening currently doesn't seem to benefit anyone so it's a mystery why nothing has happened, or at least nothing we're aware of.

There's also a rumour that Slot will be 'released of his duties' in the Summer and the decision has already been made within Liverpool and Slot informed too. Harvey maybe thinks he'll get another crack at impressing a different manager in pre-season and next season too if the rumours are true.

I’ve seen this rumour but part of me thinks it doesn’t make sense

Why wait until summer if it’s decided? A new manager could assess what we have now and get a much better picture of who likes and doesn’t and see if they fit any system he uses.

On the other hand it would be yet another change and Mac least thinks that’s part of this seasons problem.

I just think it’s tactics or lack there of and despite our spending we were still short.

Macca is probably annoyed we sold some of his mates in Darwin and Lucho. I'm glad we got rid of Nunez, he worked hard, but didnt have what it took to make it in the PL, the grief he got online after every miss was unreal, the same melts want him back. Lucho, had we not sold him this season, he would have run his contract down.
Its been a rubbish start to the season and the performances have been terrible at times, but slot deserves till the end of the season, then both him and Salah can go. then we start the real rebuild post Klopp.

Diaz is missed cause of his runs and his ability to go on the outside now we’re left with Gakpo who constantly does same trick cuts in and has little pace in comparrison of the two I’d of rather lost Gakpo than Diaz

Not only that but his ability to press added a lot to the team. We may be much slower and lacking creativity this season but the pressing is genuinely horrific, meaning we never win the ball in dangerous positions and invite more pressure with the opposition able to get at us through buildup.

Yup he has been a big loss, Nunez even provided this and I think it’s over looked allot.

Why do folks think the likes of diaz/nunez would be pressing if they were still here when the whole team doesn't press anymore

Darwin's attitude and effort was never in doubt. We're missing this across the whole team.
Bit of an odd take imo.

Gakpo was pretty frequently selected over Nunez by Klopp, and the reason cited was that he was better off the ball. Klopp frequently criticised Nunez's pressing.

Ekitike has come in and is a decent presser, probably now the best of our front three. So Gakpo - whose pressing Klopp (basically the king of pressing) never had a problem with - is still there. Ekitike has come in and I don't think his work rate is in question. And the right either remains Salah (so no real difference) or has improved on the pressing front to Dom or Frimpong.

Don't get me wrong, I miss Diaz for all of the attributes he brought, but I don't think the change in personnel has affected our pressing - the players we have are still perfectly capable pressers. Slot plays a deeper lying, lower pressing game. It's a tactical issue.

I'd have to agree, it's a tactical issue. I think slot slowed the pace a little last season but we still had that Klopp edge, so it worked well. This season it's become even more static and that's where the issue lies, and even when the players do press it just looks like theyr're always 10 yardfs away from where they need to be, to be effective,

No high press is giving the opposition so much time, that's were a decent chunk of our goals came from too.
