Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20th - 22nd December 2025]

A disappointing result but considering the injuries and absentees, not a bad performance really.

Sadly it came down to two bits of slack defending from our admittedly inexperienced defenders.

I don't really buy this talk of Villa being title contenders though, some way off City and Arsenal in terms of squad depth.

He cost over £70m, he looks like he’s played 12 games of football in his life.

It maybe harsh but he’s not good enough for the premier league.

Fee is not his problem or issue

12 games is hardly giving a young player a chance...

He gets no service either for some of those games.

Never like to loose but at least something vaguely resembling improvements are visible.

Sesko needs more time before he’s written off, started the season injured and just had another layoff. He does make some nice first touch passes that get us going forward….easily better than Hojlund imo.

Yoro is young and should learn, he’s been caught out a few times recently but it should be coachable, not like he’s lacking in pace or stature, just making silly mistakes.

Martinez is impressing on his return. Cunha is a menace, can’t be too harsh on him for that miss after scoring. He did play it right, met the ball well, down into the ground, just slightly misplaced.

We’ve actually played much better football the last few games so I’m not mad about losing at Villa Park. At least we’re not just watching the ball getting kicked backwards and sideways for 90 minutes.

Martínez in that role could be a real fix. He looked tidy and he’s always looked capable in that position.

Sounds like Fernandez could be out a while.

Oh I forgot about the law that says if it's three fouls on the same player it's an automatic yellow card.

Late in the game when you are behind the player breaking towards goal and you take 3 bites at the same player yes, yes it is a yellow card.

Missed it, I think given where the team/club is and has been, improving performances is only a good thing, it would be good to start turning them into results though. Hopefully building in the right direction. Couple of good purchases could make a world of difference.

What happened to Bruno? Case rested? Ah Case picked up a yellow last match iirc?

Not sure why people are saying Sesko looks like a noob. He is a noob! We knew that when we bought him and he's hardly had a run of games.

I mean it was a massively late scissor tackle...so yeah, rule those out.
I often wonder whether anyone here has played contact sport in real time? it was a tackle to get the ball, unfortunately momentum and really bad luck meant Isaak ended up injured, it happens and is impossible to rule out unless you say nobody can ever tackle within 3 feet of each other. A scissor tackle is just sensationalist BS

It was late, reckless and broke Isaak's leg as he caught it between both legs (a scissor tackle!). I'm all for the game being a bit tougher but this is not one of those occasions.

having watched it back several times, I have to agree with this ^^.. wasn't an horrendous scissor tackle, looked like a genuine attempt to block the shot, and Isak was very unfortunate to get his leg trapped between the defenders legs..

Can't stop defenders trying to defend.. otherwise what's the point of this game?

Wouldn’t have even been mentioned again had Isak got up and done a triple backflip in celebration, people get a little upset and knee jerk baying for blood once their players get injured. Also I blame Neville for his constant baiting of fans reaction. He knows exactly what he’s doing and everyone falls for it.

Its very very hard to be objective when it comes to tackles because so much of the reaction is based on the outcome. Yes there are some tackles that are simply dangerous by their nature. There are a huge number though that are only dangerous some of the time and those one are usually considered dangerous when a few things go wrong. The fouled player puts their foot down at the worst time and in the worst position.

Now you can argue that if thats the case then it wasn't a safe tackle but to my mind, a huuuuuge number of tackles are not remotely in the hands of the player making the tackle once they have committed to the tackle. Most tackles fall somewhere on a spectrum of "this is 100% safe" to "that was almost certain to hurt the other player". Not many sit very close to the 100% safe end.
