Massive Car insurance costs?

Paid £640 last year. Renewal came in at £620.

Quick 5 min search online and purchased new insurance for £530

First renewal since getting my R5 came around the other week, Hastings wanted £619. Previously I've been able to find a far cheaper comparable quote via the usual comparison sites, reject their renewal price, enter the competitor's price and they'd match it, but they didn't even get close this year so I've switched to Allianz Silver for £382.

My renewal for 2026 they wanted almost £1200..never ever claimed on any car in over 25 years driving...clean licence again as 5 years since last speeding offence...never banned...never had any accidents!

Yet they still want £1200! Went to gocompare got a quote for £605 from another provider in a few seconds LOL

In my early 40s, no claims...like ever, two cars the key problem one being a Tesla, insurance was £1400 !

Then wife reversed in to a tree, _slight_ dent in the boot, cost was 8900 odd to repair (brand new boot and various assemblies, plus painting and of course the South East premium). So kinda understand why now.

Got rid of the M3 earlier in the year and the insurance dropped to 690...

Mines due in a month so started looking at quotes, quick comparison & quotes are coming in around £200 cheaper than last year.

Will wait to see what my current insurance comes back with as a renewal first but pleasantly surprised.

Got my son insured with a telematics thingy the other day after he passed his test. Was expecting to see very large numbers but got it from Hastings Direct for £1,075 which is very reasonable I think for a 17 year old. 2016 Corsa for reference.

I have heard from a young lad at work, if you pass your test then wait a few weeks - its much cheaper.

Yeah I actually don't think the hike in insurance is that ridiculous.

Most cars see now seem to be PCP types. So if 2 of these hit each other, even a small impact. It could easily be 20k of costs.

Even if you drive a banger like me I could easily cause 10ks damage to someone else just from a bump in the car park.

Change thread title to MASSIVE Car insurance reduction, just had my renewal through, was pretty decent but I complained and ask for loyal customer discount which knocked like another 20% of the premium, I am now at:

600 LT - £384
Cayman R - £311
R8 - £227
Home insurance - £269
Honda E - £435 (Mrs is down as policy holder, she is named on above)
Skoda Citigo - £200 (Mother is main driver, myself and Mrs are named)

Absolute bargain I feel and Mrs made a no fault claim for Honda E which Admiral paid out cash in advance so we could do our own repairs due to modifications and they were so easy to deal with. The McLaren for under £400 is insane, even better its only £190 to tax now. :D

Hi everyone, I've been looking at GTIs on Autotrader, some older ones are listed as 29E some newer ones 33E

In reality, will this make a difference when I get a quote? Its basically the same car, same performance, just older/newer (cheaper/more expensive)

Run some quotes and find out.

That's very good. My daughter's policy on her '21 plate Juke (she's 23, 3 years NCB) was £1600, albeit with a £100 excess (Zurich).

I could have got it down to £1200 with Direct Line, but they wanted a £750 excess.

Its where you live mate more than anything that affects quotes recently ;)

Try quotes on that little lot in London your looking at up to 10 times more now

Was speaking to a broker last week he said location, high vehicle crime rates & high congestion are pushing insurers to have to jack prices way up in some areas so everyone has to pay for all of this :(

You could not pay me to live in London!

Peak District drives less than ten minutes away, Welsh border an hour so fortunate with our location and I’ll take low crime rate and cheap insurance as a bonus. :)
