Want to visit US? Show us your social media history.

Revenge on the non diplomats also?

If they are influencers then it's revenge too.

They are not gonna bother with Joe public it's completely not worth it.

But yeah the whole things stupid/ridiculous.

We'd already have 1000s of refused ETSA or whatever its called just from the UK alone....

What’s the latest on this? Is it another piece of verbal diarrhoea from the orange man baby or is it actually happening? Reason I ask is that I have the opportunity to argue my case for a trip in either Feb or April for work and I can’t decide if I really want to go enough to have said arguments — or just not bother.

*My boss and department are all based out in California so I’ve been making the point since forever that I should be out there at least once or twice a year — but my boss is relatively new — and as nice as he is he’s struggling with his bosses being rather tight on overhead spending.

So, what actually happens if you truly don't have any social media accounts?
I got rid of mine at the start of COVID and lockdown, due to all the arguments and conspiracy theories.
Some of the people espousing them were actually really lovely people in real life.

That's the entire problem with social media, it truly brings out the worst in EVERYONE who uses it.
No exceptions.

All what happens is people surround themselves with only those who agree with them, and start to dehumanise anyone who doesn't.

Everyone who doesn't adhere 100% to your world view, is suddenly your enemy, who you cannot tolerate at all.
Even those who might agree with you on 99.9% everything else.

People get way, way, too serious about it. When in reality, everything people say and do on Social Media is mostly fake. Including the outrage.

Hence why I don't have it, will never have it, and stay far away from the General Discussion here on OCUK forums.

I myself am not immune to any of the above.

As they say in Wargames, the only winning move is not to play.

There's no way I'm going back to the US for the foreseeable. That includes business trips too, I used to go to Oracle Cloud World in Las Vegas every year (which is even less fun than it sounds in a place that's an utter **** hole) but I declined to go last year and won't be going back.

The wife and I both need a visa having visited a country that the US aren't friends. If they're expecting to see your social media history to get an ESTA, what on earth is the visa process going to be like? Well, I'm not going to find out. My visa expires in a couple of years and it's not going to be used again.

Jokes on them I don't use any social media; social media is for chumps
Jokes on you, they won’t believe you and will send you to El Salvador :o

As I think I’ve already posted in this thread I’m very torn with this. My head office, boss and department are all on the west coast and I used to go every year in April for a convention in Vegas too. That fell away but I’ve always been arguing I should be going twice a year. Plenty of people in my office travel regularly; some senior people 3-6 times a year. So it’s kinda damaging not going, but I’m just not sure I want to..

Yeah, I understand. In years gone by we were owned by a company based in Phoenix so I was out there every 3 months or so. These days though it's UK owned with no companies in the US so it's easy for me to decline to visit that totalitarian dictatorship.

I would be torn if I were in your position, I'm not sure which way I'd lean tbh.

Well... if you are from a country that you have to apply for a VISA instead of a ESTA, on the application they ask if you are a terrorist or have any connection to terrorist organizations.... who the hell would answer YES to that?
