If you use lower DLSS/FSR scaling options, the 7800X3D -> 9800X3D upgrade can yield some reasonable results, but it's certainly not huge. It was certainly worthwhile for me. Now the 9850X3D I expect to be a few % upgrade at best.9850x3d sounds interesting for gamers. Wonder who these will be aimed at, can't imagine 9800x3d owners will bother.
I have a 7800x3d and a 4k monitor so will be wasted on me.
i think the dual x3d layout thing is probably more aimed at productivity and media creation tasks than at gaming i might be wrong. i could imagine the extra cache would be really usefull for me for running different vsts without having to run to ram and such so much.Unless I'm wrong theres nothing exciting about the 9950X3D2 as most games will still disable the second CCD and each CCD has its own seperate 3D cache and most 9800X3D's can be overclocked to a 99850X3D.![]()

Thats my understanding, I think it will make little to no difference to most games.Unless I'm wrong theres nothing exciting about the 9950X3D2 as most games will still disable the second CCD and each CCD has its own seperate 3D cache and most 9800X3D's can be overclocked to a 99850X3D.![]()
I have no idea on this but why would a game disable the 2nd ccd if it would utilise all cores?? Doesn't battlefield use all available cores??Thats my understanding, I think it will make little to no difference to most games.
I have had my 9800X3D running at 5.6ghz for the past year, +10% in benchmarks and margin of error to a couple of % in games but only if you’re CPU limited so not really worth paying extra for imo.I wasn't going to bother with the 9850X3D but I think I might go for it, I fell for the KS trap on Intel too but they often used more power than the normal K.
If this ends up using similar amounts of power I think it'll be worth it. Especially if the "upgrade" costs about £150 after selling the 9800X3D

Games don't disable ccd's, windows does, so it's up to Microsoft to update window scheduler to not disable the second ccd in gaming. Windows only currently disables the second ccd for a 9950x3d because AMD told Microsoft to do so, so now AMD needs to tell Microsoft to not disable the second CCD for the 9950x3D2, seems like a simple fix to me!
So I would say you're not wrong as of the current version of windows, but if Windows 11 gets an update to its scheduler for the 9950x3d2 then yes games will use all 16 cores
I don't like the idea of a CPU needing OS microcode to run correctly. Pretty makes the CPU redundant on software support.
I think we need some clarity here: the second CCD is never disabled using the driver-based solution. The scheduler ignores the threads available on that CCD for gaming loads - it also requires Xbox game bar and some AMD drivers to function correctly. It's very much a software solution shouldered by Microsoft and AMD. It optimises gaming workloads by running the game's threads across the CCD with the extra cache.Games don't disable ccd's, windows does, so it's up to Microsoft to update window scheduler to not disable the second ccd in gaming.
