Ive been looking at base building and survival games recently and wondered which people are enjoying currently? Specifically the ones ive seen so far are Runescape dragonwilds, Enshrouded, Vintage Story or No mans sky, anyone have any experience with them? Which are better than others?

Planet Crafter looks interesting.

Gets great reviews.

Replying to a permabanned, lol

Would love to see Valheim getting more love. Seems it's gonna hit PS5 and be cross platform (which could be interesting).

Had some fun with it before with mates but didn't get to be one we got REALLY stuck into. Far enough in to have a few crazy bases on the top of one of the rock buttresses near the Fuling bases when they were the biggest enemy. Seems there's a couple more biomes now.

There's so many I could recommend, you'd have to be more specific for me to me useful. Are you looking for solo, coop, online multiplayer, a persistent world (updating when you're away). Are you after a completable campaign/story or an overall goal that signals the end of the game. Any particular setting like standed on islands, post apocalyptic, horror, zombies? Worlds with threats like AI enemies. Is it just survival. Heavy or light on base building and material gathering. Heavy or light on exploring? Heavy or light on things like production chains of buildings?

I've played so many I've enjoyed and they're pretty varied, many good ones in their own right but I'd just be giving you a massive list if I listed them all.

It was a very quick banning. Must have been a bot. Shame, because its a game genre I've been heavily into for the last year or two. Ever since I played Subnautica, Kenshi and Conan Exiles. I've even been as far as to buy lots of early access games, like Aska, The Last Plague Blight, Nightingale, Humantiz, Surroundead, Enshrouded and the like. Currently playing Abiotic Factor and Vintage Story. I tried Runescape Dragonwilds, but it felt to me like it was very much aimed at young children.

Its a superb genre, though sadly for me and my friends I think we've played every decent title in the genre to death and are now in a position of having to wait for the next one to come along

It's an annoying genre because game Devs seem to rely too heavily on survival and not much else.

A perfect example is arc survival evolved. Fantastic setting, super fun to be had, but totally wasted by having zero story. There's nothing to really do but build a base for the sake of it to get bigger dinosaurs for the sake of it.

Subnautica has been the only game I know that actually got it perfect. There is an actual beginning, middle and end to story, with survival base building required throughout.

I play valheim and have a strong dislike of how those games work.

First you can build wood houses. Then you level up, now you can start fresh and build stone houses. Then you level up. Now you can build fresh and build obsidian houses. Then you level up. Now you can build diamond houses rinse repeat.

There's no point to base build until the very highest level once you've unlocked the actual good base stuff, but then you've finished the game because there's no story to go with it. Just levelling up which you've done.

It's sad as subnautica is one of my favourite games. And no one has been able to take what made that great and copy it
