*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Completed Metroid Prime 4, enjoyed it. :)

I didn't think I was going to as I didn't like the prime remaster on the Switch but actually knowing what to do in this one made me enjoy it a whole lot more.
Was reading that recent interview that came out, and one thing that caught my eye is they [Retro] are now setup as a 'metroid studio', so hopefully, given the advertising and stuff, that means we'll get a MP5 where Retro can work it from scratch with no dial back to previous designs, previous iterations from another studio etc.

Metroid Prime might be falling into the dammed if they do and damned if they don't category. If they make it like the old games people will be frustrated and lost but if they update it all the old fans will turn on it for being too hand holding. For me personally I like the boss battles were not a slog this time.

Also a bit sad if Retro is just the Metroid studio now, as they have shown some range in the past.

I was a bit concerned with MP4 when I first got to the open area but once I understood how it all worked it was actually pretty cool with the new traversal mechanic (no spoilers if you don’t know). Not quite finished it yet but I’m loving it all. Playing in handheld on holiday. Think I will go through it again via the TV as soon as I get home.

I’ve also dabbled with Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door whilst out here. Charming game so far not sure why I’ve not played it yet!

Also! Final Fantasy Integrade demo. Shame it’s 30fps but it holds up pretty well in handheld and the frames aren’t really noticeable in battle just when moving around. I already own it on the PS5 so doubt if I’ll buy it again. Just wanted to check it out.

Is the 'metroid studio' thing from an official source or more just speculation?.

Yeah I enjoyed Prime 4, but Retro should have been on the project from the start instead of having to save the project. I hope they get a fresh shot at Prime 5.

Yeah definitely.

Metroid Prime (1) is a masterpiece, but it's 3D metroidvania design isn't something that appeals to loads of people and it's something that's hard to expand upon too. I can see why they gradually moved away from that with the following Prime games.

Personally I think the direction that makes the most sense is an open area like design, not fully open world but multiple seamless open areas you can travel between that are dense with different types of traversal paths.

It reminds me a bit of ocarina of time, you have hyrule field with dungeons area's off the main hub world, I like this set up in MP4 but that isn't surprising as I like those type of 3D Zelda games.

It was from a translation of the interview, but where it was now, I'm not sure! Again, I'm hoping we get more, even without having not set foot in MP4 yet! MP1 is impressive enough.

Sonic Origins is fantastic and definitely worth picking up if you played the originals :)

My only criticism of it are the music changes in Sonic 3, I I understand the reasoning but I wish the licensing could have been sorted even if it was paid dlc.

Am trying to workout what the differences are between Sonic Origins & Sonic Mania

I just got around to buying that Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. Just moved on from the first joycon and the mouse games were actually pretty fun. I think if they could come out with a game based on a load of mini games like that, it would be great.

Had anyone found any other good uses in games for the mouse control?

I hate Sonic Origins… all the sound effects aren’t quite right set against the background music. And yes I have a OCD brain where I can detect these insignificant things being different than the OG experiences :p
Is that in an audio mixing sense or that the sound effects just don't seem right in general? I'm just curious as I've never really noticed anything in that regard and I've played the first 3 titles to death lol :)

I'm in the minority I think but I really enjoyed Drag x Drive, the dual mouse controls take practice but they actually work really well, although I did play it at my desk on a large mouse mat. I'd play it a bunch more if the online had a little more meat to it's bones. There is a demo for it I think.

Mouse controls work pretty well when I tried them in Fortnite, Apex Legends and Prime 4, but it's the pressing of the buttons in conjunction with using the mouse that I find awkward in those games - feels a bit cramped for me.

I think for Drag x Drive people found using their legs/thighs works fine, since you only need to go backwards and forwards with the mouse controls in that game.

But yeah outside of possibly trying out something fresh/unique that's designed entirely for the mouse controls (or dual mouse controls), I don't have a reason to deviate from using controller either.

Parental controls seem poor.
Trying to set my two kids to restrict but the app seems to want to restrict my account as well.

Just Dance has already annoyed me, says on the box for 3+ then won't let you play it without a ubisoft account which you need to be 13 for and I don't want them playing online.

So far not a great experience. Kids still seem to have basically full access to everything.

I think it’s just a mixing thing… IIRC the way the music would pause when collecting rings… or something else similar. Could have just had a buggy installation who knows!

Not me, I only play Nintendo games and pixel RPGs that play well on handheld like dragon quest. Speaking of, got I&II and III en route
Just got a new 64 capacity game holder.
