I want to move to OLED, is this one a good choice ?

The clarity on DP 2.1 is insane
Unless you're using an 8x magnification on a magnifying glass when using the monitor, there is absolutely no difference in clarity between DP 2.1 and DP 1.4 with DSC.

I prefer DP 2.1 purely because it removes any of the headaches you get from using DSC - but you cannot say that DP 2.1 'clarity is insane'.

Agree though in general, that monitor is a great choice.

True that is why i have both :D

Some games are said not to work and older titles dont look right. Thats what keeping me off ultra wide. Ultra wide mainly good for simulations like Elite, Flight sims.

Im still looking for an oled but there are different types now like WOLED, QOLED etc which is better?. Probbaly some more types too.

A lot of this information is easy to find online if you have a look about but a general summary:

QD-OLED - Samsung manufactured panels. Typically semi-gloss (although ironically, Samsung's own monitors are matte) and there is a bit more variety here (4k @ 27", 1440p @ 27", 4k @ 32" and ultrawide - as well as 240hz, 360hz and 500hz refresh rates for 1440p)
WOLED - LG's manufactured panels, typically matte but Asus offers matte finishes with their 'true black' coating for both 1440p and 4k. No 4k monitors available at 27" yet for WOLED.

Neither are better, they offer different things. Both suffer from text fringing due to non-standard RGB pixel layouts, although different issues on both tech. QD-OLED tends to offer more vibrant colours, WOLED tends to be 'blacker' when there is more light in the room.

I could certainly tell a difference from my UCDM on HDMI 2.1 to the UCDMR on DP 2.1 the image looks much sharper to me.

This gets my vote - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...32-inch-31.5-inch-viewable-mon-asu-05853.html - picked one up from for £775. The clarity on DP 2.1 is insane, has loads of anti flicker / burn in options, the OSD is much snappier and you also get the power brick built in this time. You also get all the required cables.

This is partly a test to see what happens to price by talking about it.

But i am wanting a new oled monitor and at the moment its £300 sale price at £798. 95. Is it a good upgrade from a gigabyte m32u what has quite abit of light bleed in top right corner of my screen?. Cant see it getting any cheaper for new year sales?.

Edit if its still same price tomorrow i will be buying it FACT.

You'll get zero bleed mate with it being an OLED. I'm extremely happy with mine. Just make sure you update the firmware when you get it :)

Do companies think having the word AI in description will make people buy it quicker or something?. Now its even in monitors lol. If anything AI puts me off. The only AI i can think off what good are computer games which have been used since for ever.

What would they be?

That what im doing ive had my m32u since 2022 and it got quite a bit of light blead so getting a new one. Just dont go with philips. I was warned by a couple of failure but went a bought one and got 27M2N8500 27 earlier this year and screen went a funny colour which i think over heated. (From here) I lost the receipt so lost 400 quid so im buying that bit more expensive one. You get what you pay for too.

I always buy my PC stuff from here and must have spent over 4k this year on monitors and new PC.

I keep thinking about upgrading my 4/5 year old IPS for an OLED but there seems to be quite a few drawbacks for the money.

I've gone back to IPS.

I spent over £1000 three years ago on an OLED and while I sang the benefits through all that time.... but I never stopped worrying about burn-in.

I barely used the monitor, only for gaming. But last week I bought a new, calibrated second monitor and realised the OLED had developed a red tinge over one side of the screen.

When I wasn't gaming, I used an IPS monitor that is now coming up to four years old, yet that is still perfect up against the calibrated monitor, so I've switched to using that all the time. The OLED is in the garage. I will never buy another. Sure, they have their advantages, but I, for one, never slept easy with the ever present threat of burn-in, and I can not afford to buy £600 monitors that only last three years.

At this point, waiting to see what is revealed next week at CES is the sensible play.

I enjoy OLED monitors, I still hope they are able to address text clarity, VRR flicker and brightness this year with coming releases but I do feel like they are still viable for both gaming and work with how good burn in prevention is.

I’m almost more looking forward to Gsync Pulsar though and seeing the monitors releasing this year with that tech. It’s such a shame that we’ve essentially lost dedicated Gsync monitors in the past few years, my Dell S2417DG had a proper Gsync module and was fantastic.

Honestly at the rate rate new stuff is coming out and advancing I'd expect to replace anything I got within a year.

Yeah, 100%. Comparing OLED monitors from 12/18 months ago to today is almost a night and day difference, better brightness, more resolutions/sizes available, better pixel layouts for text clarity, significantly improved OLED care features. It'll be mega interesting to see what gets revealed next week vs. what ends up releasing towards the end of this year.
