Sim racers - what are you running?

Hey all, dipping my toes into sim racing, I grabbed a Moza R3 set for my xbox at a bargain price and already planning on replacing the wheelbase for something a little stronger.

However looking for advice/thoughts on cockpits, anyone here run a setup on just a wheel stand type (e.g Nitro Concepts C-Racer), if so how do you find it?

Alternatively can anyone recommend a decent compact full-size cockpit with allows for a sliding seat position?
@ShiWarrior @SimonRigga both use playseat challenge, I used the next level wheel stand had to modify for seat sliding when pressing pedals (huesinveld sprints)

@GSXRMovistar as @Mr.Cookie says i've used a playseat challenge for the last few years, and for me it's perfect as it folds away into a cupboard.. like thus..

As I don't have the space for a permanent rig, it was the right solution for me at the time and still going strong. It takes a minute or two to unfold, and move the pedals to the correct position, and then a few mins to fold away again.

I don't have the best wheel so can't comment on how it would deal with more serious FFB. But the seating position is perfect, for me anyway, and really compliments racing in VR as it feels more like you're in a racing seat.

Any other questions ask away.

i got a thrust master T300 on mine, so its a little bulkier, but as said i don't have space for a fixed rig, i switched from my desk to this, and its the best thing i ever did

Thanks all, I'm trying to work out if I can fit a dedicated rig in my office with a little rejigging (looking like I can). Intention is to grab another Xbox to run it off as having a blast with Forza Motorsport currently, and then if I really get the bug will consider a PC at a later date.

I've got/use the GT Omega Wheel Stand Pro with the Moza R12 and it does the job, planning longer term to sort out space for a cockpit and go all in but for now it's good enough and like the above folds up (not quite as small maybe) and kinda out of the way. It is bloomin' heavy though with the wheelbase/pedals/sequential and handbrake fitted :p

Spent some time looking for a cockpit.

Gtomega, trak racer and nextlevel racing.

For some reason none of them have the monitor direct mounts in stock for their respective models.

There are standalone options sure, but if you want to mount the monitor, not today.

Odd.

I'm pretty much sold on the GT Omega PRIME Lite as a cockpit, and now looking at the following for the screen https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...hdmi-2.1-curved-gaming-mon-mon-msi-02166.html

Size wise is 32" ok for a single screen setup?
If I were going single screen I would want either a very large 16:9 or one of the wide screen formats, obviously those come at a bigger cost though.

The bonus of going with a 32" though, is that is the perfect size for triples when you later decide to upgrade :p

Setup will be limited to 130cm width max so for now triples are a no go. I'd consider VR as I already have my son's headset I could test with however I don't have a PC setup (Mac user for the last 10+ years). My intention is to carry on with an xbox setup for now and then only if I really get the bug would I consider the cost/hassle of a PC setup.

Not full on VR, but isn't there an app on quest headsets that lets you stream Xbox games into the headset, so it's on a huge screen? I mean it's only 2D but you get a virtual 100" screen to play on :)

I would have done it the other way round ie invest in the pc first and then the cockpit etc

I borrowed a metaquest 3s off my uncle to try and I don't know how people use VR at all.
The entire experience was horrible for me.
The image is only in focus for a very narrow field of vision directly in front of my eyes, everything else looked blurry and horrible (either in a game or just in the metaquest OS itself)
I did try adjusting the eye distances on the headset and the straps but nothing felt right,
tried it with and without glasses, with and without the glasses extension piece as well.

I just thought VR was crap after that but surely people aren't banging on all the time about how good it is if the experience is that bad.

VR is certainly not everyone's cup of tea.. but i'm surprised by the focus thing..

my Q3 is clear edge to edge.. much better than the Q2 in that respect.. as that was quite fiddly to get your eyes in the correct place...

no idea what the issue could have been.. but :( that you didn't get on with it.. I think it's game changing if you love computer games and can get on with it.. I rarely play any 2D games these days.. as I always think they'd be better in VR..

The Quest 3 is a lot better than then the 3s to be honest.

It also depends what settings you had at the time when you used it.

Do you normally wear prescription glasses?

I do, but I don't need them at close distances. screens etc.

Although if I doom scroll too long on my phone that looks blurry, so I think the metaquest (or likely any VR headset) is just too close to my eyes

I believe the 3s uses Fresnel lenses over the 3 using pancake, pancake lenses are so much better :)

So I built this SRT V10 H + Sequential shifter in my latest DIY adventure. Still waiting for some mounting bits and a clutch pedal, but I'm already blown away by how good it is.
Downforce and paddles are all good in LMU etc, but if you're like me and you also enjoy going oldskool in manual cars like 90's GT1 (AC/AMS2), GrA/Touring etc, mad buggers like the F40 LM in ACE, or some Shutoko classics, then a manual/seq shifter is what you really want for proper immersion and plain old fun.

Ignore the scrape on my wall. Bloody monitor arm...

Shifting feel can be tailored to suit preference. Want it smoother and quieter with less force required, or some clunky, chunky hairy chested heft? Just swap out a printed ramp profile in less than a minute.
There are 15 different ramps - 5 each in three categories: Accurate/Clanky/Neutral.

Switch to sequential in 2secs and slide the red thing over to lock out lateral movement.

It's not all printed parts and feels solid and beefy.
There are 3 12mm steel shafts (held by steel brackets) and all the sliding/rotating contact points run on bearings.
It also uses contactless hall sensors on the PCB to detect gear position.

There's also an optional servo motor installed which does clutch lockout via simhub. If you don't press the clutch, the stick won't move. Not sure if I'll use it much, but it's a cool feature.

Honestly, the engineering design work on this is pretty damn ingenious. I can well believe the accounts that this thing is at least on par with the best out there for far less money in terms of feel.

You've done a stunning print on that, what material did you use?
