NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

For once, for the first time in my ******* aging, sad PC gaming geeky life, I feel I've genuinely bought high end PC hardware at the right time! Did a whole rebuild of CPU, Ram and motherboard and then topped it off with a 5090FE (so 'bargain basement' price haha!) just before all this madness started.

Been playing Half-life Alyx with a reshade and has by far pushed my 5090 the hardest. Even with my undervolt of 0.875 its nearly pushing 600w.

Indiana Jones on max was only pushing 450w.

Got mine pushing the same undervolt, and pulls almost the same wattage, can’t believe I got my solid OC for just over £1700 only 6 weeks ago

Retailers are definitely capitalising on this (some more than others....). No way has 32GB GDDR7 gone up anywhere close to justify this.
unfortunately its more than just ram shortage although that is a significant factor, nvidia has deliberately cut consumer gpu production by 40% most likely reason was they overbooked AI customers so need to supply them first, also there is high demand for the 5090 from AI customers. Nvidia is worlds most valued company right now but I feel like they took a pee on very people that were loyal to them. Next round I will not touch nvidia and there will come a time when nvidia will fall just like intel but even faster as many are working to undo their monopoly.

5090's were already at silly levels of pricing, Now it's gotten flat out stupid. My Zotac 5090 Gaming OC White was £2100, Same card is now £3200 and I don't doubt it will be over 4 grand in a month or 2.

Price's weren't even this much of a farce during covid, another site has the astral for almost £4k already. Comical.

Makes the FE models look like an absolute steal.

Yeah, if you can beat the queue of thousands to the punch. This is like covid times where it was a mad rush once a telegram notification appeared for 30 series cards from the uk distributor at that time.. Given the price differences now I'd say its going to be even harder to get an FE card now than it was then. Not to mention that drops of the FE 50 series seem far less frequent than the 30 series.

I'm still suprised I casually got an FE on launch without really trying. Backed out of first checkout then almost backed out of second checkout because I wasnt entirely sure I wanted a FE (Wanted to watercool and block availbility was uncertain). Glad I followed through now, never seen such obnoxious markups on 3rd party cards in any launch previously.

You must have got super lucky. It went straight to out of stock for me. Same with the 4090 FE. I only got one in April due to a discord notification and buying it within 2mins.

Same here, I was waiting for the 30 launch and immediately it went to out of stock, it didn't even show as being in stock for a second on my end. Then we hear the bulk of the stock was grabbed by bots.

The frustrating thing is the majority of the founders edition are straight on eBay.

Look at this joker https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32694288...0+founders+edition&sacat=0&relatedSearch=true

That's what gets me about scalpers, the complete greed. There are too many people willing to buy off scalpers. If everyone just reined in their rampant consumerism and FOMO, there'd be no market for them.

Looks like he sold a 5080 founders too so the demand from people is there. As you say it’s a shame people buy from them. Happened with consoles too.

I just don’t understand it though. If you’re willing to spend £4000 on a 5090 why wouldn’t you buy it from a retailer? There’s a stock at that price.

I’ve been known to make bad decisions and pay over the odds but I just couldn’t bring myself to buy from a scalper.

Payment types/finance etc.

Some people would prefer to buy from eBay to be able to pay with their preferred payment method which might not be available at a specific retailer. That particular seller/scalper just looks like real scum though, their sold history has a few FE 5090's and 5080s - but if you go back a few more years you can see they were doing it with the 3000 series as well during Covid.

Not of the 2 slot founder edition there isn't. The people buying these are the ones who are cramming 5 of them into one build for AI and £4k is still a lot less than £10k for an RTX 6000
