(PPIs) lansoprazole, Pantoprazole etc

used to take them occasionally back when i was heavier
since losing weight with the MJ i've not had any reflux symptoms
just checked and my over-the-counter esomeprazole is now out of date!

Took them for years for acid reflux but never had any tests to confirm. It may have been stress related. I stopped taking them regularly a couple of years ago and just avoided anything that made symptoms worse. Don't suffer as badly anymore and only take them if I can't avoid NSAIDs, as they wreak havoc on my gut now.

Been on Omeprazole for the last 6 months due to liver disease. Something about protecting me from acid reflux. Haven’t had any symptoms to be honest, even before being placed on them.

I did for years after having a gallbladder removal but have learned to control my reflux and bowel movements now without taking any PPIs.

If you’re being prescribed them for genuine medical reasons like some of the above then do as your prescriber suggests, if it’s self medicated then start with your diet and see how far it gets you. I’ve heard people say they neck them, all while having a high fat diet, spicy foods, fizzy drinks, alcohol, eating too close to bed time etc..

I had a 10cm hiatus hernia
I did take lansoprazole for more than 3 years, but sometimes it was not helping, many nights for 6 months I had to sleep in an angle, to not have acid reflux, so my doctors decided that I would be a good candidate to a surgery.
I had a Toupet fundoaplication surgery about 2 years ago, now I'm completely off lansoprazole, I don't regret a single bit having the surgery, the scars are minimum, only 5 small incisions, the only thing now is that I need to eat a little less and a bit slower.

I took omeprazole for a good few years due to my antidepressants causing some pretty severe acid reflux, then they completely messed with my iron uptake and I'm off it all now, the depression is a bitch at times but at least I have some energy now with better iron levels.

I'm on antidepressants.. Which ones were you on dude, if you don't mind me asking?

It was either Citalopram or Sertraline, I swapped due to other issues but they both had the same effect regarding acid reflux, can't remember which one I was on when I quit though and I'd need to look up my records to find out.
