Star Trek : Starfeet Academy (Paramount+)

Struggled with episode 5, I found it dumb and the worst so far. Any one have teens here? Interested to see what the younger crowd make of it.

I have a cousin I was talking to earlier funnily enough, he's a fan of Trek himself and as we often chat about tv/movies the topic invariably came up.

He tried making it a family thing with his two daughters, so 16 and 18 as they like sci-fi. Neither were apparently into it, thought it was boring with weirdly mixed focus. His description was that it was like a high budget CW show aimed at millennial teens, which obviously no longer exist. Seemed pretty relieved that they weren't interested in continuing as he hated every moment.

The vast majority on Bluesky and Twitter are calling for the show to be cancelled or the main director to be fired... Paramount paying for another Season is well...

They are likely the same people that have been wanting Kurtzman fired since Discovery started. Season 2 already confirmed and filming has already wrapped

Ep6 - i thought this was going to be crap, the 10mins shagging opening, wtf? But thought this was an excellent episode.

Giamatti is an excellent baddie in this and had some great monologues - totally went for the over the top villain.

Ep7 - meh to good episode. Caleb is hench! And Jayden is the most useless Klingon in the Galaxy; Klingon gone woke.

Best line was Tig: "I thought i left my pad in here. Nope, all i see is 2 cadets in the deepest of ****" - made me chortle.

I was ready to bin this off after the SAM episode, but enjoyed 6 and 7. Come at me haters.

6 was really good but 7 not so much. However I guess its good that they are actually fleshing out the characters more.

I think that opening scene in 6 had to be included so we understood the connection they had as if they just had her telepathically talking to him later it wouldn't have made sense.

All I know of this week's episode is that Tilly makes a return.

Ugh, Tilly was one of the most annoying and dislikeable characters. Haven't seen the latest few episodes but that was a surprise I didn't need.

Well after 8 long episodes of watching this I was hoping it would get better. But think I’m done with this series, after watching every spinoff series think has dropped the ball.

As i say, i enjoyed 6 and 7, why did you have to **** me off by saying Tilly is back? FFS!!!

Just needs Burnham in, then everyone telling her she's the most incredible, intelligent, knowledgable, amazing, powerful the most killed starfleet officier and entity in the entire universe, that even entire Borg collective, Q would be jealous and powerless against.

Ep8: Another touchy feely episode, garbage.

Another SAM focused episode - I just don't care about this character, no matter how much the writers want us to.

So many things they could have done with the academy background and they choose this? Wasted opportunity.

Enjoyed Ep 9, then i saw it was directed by Riker. Just shows when they get rid of feelings and wokeness and let a someone who knows and love Trek run it, things can be very different.

Caught up on Eps. 8 + 9 and liked them both, assume there is going to be ‘family conflict’ in the finale.

You didn't find the premise of mining the entire federation space totally absurd, that he managed to do that in a few weeks, all by himself, one ship, without anyone noticing, with funds needed and time involved?

It was obvious from the start! All Vance and Captain Feet kept banging on about was Starfleet conveying in one area. I was like "wtf?", that's his plan. But the best of Starfleets minds apparently couldn't see it :( And yes, the premise of mining that entire area is absurd. Will did what he could with the writing and made it a decent episode.

Riker directing and new writers? Could be a good show.
