Your bad driving encounters/irritations

That is a potentially misleading quote of my comments.
I was pointing out that people were driving through the temporary traffic lights on red because the aforementioned lights were completely unnecessary. If you can see for 100s of yards on a perfectly straight road beyond the short section of temp traffic lights (on a site no larger than a legally parked van....) and there is nothing even within sight, what is the point of waiting there at a red light ?
Nothing I have said is misleading. You can make your own decisions and have your own opinions, but NRSWA is there for a reason, and if you believe something doesn't need to be there, then that is your opinion. Unless you have NSRWA qualifications and full knowledge of what is happening on a work site, you're only ever going to have part of the picture when you're making your decision driving past a works site.
That's obviously completely unacceptable, quite apart from anything it is not the fault of those working on the site anyway. "Ghost" sites are the fault of the management, or, more specifically the completely illogical charging structure for road closure permits where it costs about the same for a long closure as a short one, and, AFAIK, nothing at all for temproray traffic lights. In both cases the charges should be set up to ensure the contractors / utility companies complete the job ASAP, charging by the day, or even by the hour, and at a rate that "motivates" the companies to finish the job ASAP and thus minimise the wasted time of road users. It seems the "powers that be" are finally moving on this "lane rental schemes"
Nobody, not the utilities, the highway authorities or the public wants anything to be out on the highway for no reason. There are already longstanding measures in place for road and street works, permit schemes have existed for many years (becoming far more prevalent after Street Manager started from July 2020), overrun charges and fixed penalty notices, the later doubling as of the 5th January 2026, and Lane Rental is not new and not the magic wand that you may think it is.

I'll leave things there as I don't think it would make a difference to continue responding to someone who thinks that ghost sites and works are just out for no reason, dare say "for the fun of it" as a trained medical nurse once asked. I just hope that you're never in a position when harm has come to anyone if you've driven past a set of temporary lights when red if you didn't think they needed to be there in your opinion.

On my way home minutes ago, I was driving up the A1M. I moved into lane 2 to overtake a couple cars. It was very much clear but as I was progressing up lane 2, all I could see in my mirrors was a 26 plate Kia Sportage roaring up at what must've been 90-100 mph towards me.

I think I was doing about 71-72 mph at that point and the Kia got so far up my rear, constantly flashing me to get out the way. Obviously I couldn't at that point because I was still in the middle of overtaking the cars on the left, but the tool was so impatient that I wasn't speeding myself.

Seconds later I was able to move back to the left, so after doing that, I glanced at the Kia as they went past. The front passenger was inappropriately gesticulating through the window at me and actually attempted to spit at my car, but at that speed, the spit missed my car.

The joys of driving.

Mental. Absolutely mental. The amount of dashcam footage you’d think local police forces were begging for material so they could rake in the dosh. Guess it needs someone to review, they cost money.

I've got clear dashcam footage of yesterday's encounter, so was debating whether I should report this one.

Just checked my footage and I was maintaining 65-71 mph throughout, but there was a moment just before the idiot entered the scene that the speedometer on my dashcam video spiked up to 74 mph for a couple seconds before going back down.

This wouldn't get me into trouble with the coppers, would it? I have no explanation other than a slight heavy right foot at that moment.

While not a dangerous driver, they were pretty thick. Woman in a mini stopped in the exit of a one way car park to pick up her little darling. After 30 seconds of her not moving when the child (must have been 10ish, so no car seat) I had to go around her. I assume her head was just full of air to stop at an exit and not park properly, unfortunately it seems to be any time kids are involved, noticed she had a private plate too  . My stereotyping is correct most of the time:p.

It’s within 10% so very unlikely, especially if only for a few seconds.

Yeah 10% + 2 mph would be 5mph over what was recorded, and the dashcam speedometer is probably uncalibrated/overreading too anyway.

People who have high beams on until the last minute!

Was blinded by one the other night whilst enjoying a bit of back road blasting:

I have factory bi-xenons so the curtain opens on the projector to make the xenons light up further and higher on flash or push of the stalk to turn on high beams. The high beams are also halogen and also come on at the same time. The halogens are warmer tint by default yep.

My car has bi-xenons with halogen auxiliaries. The curtains don't open on mine for a flash that just uses the halogens, stalk has to be fully engaged for the xenon full beam. Apparently is saves wear and tear

Yeah that is what I read before on the single pull to flash, I coded it in as it's available on the module but the clever part is that flashing whilst the Xenon is already on is fine as it's already on, no wear issue from a quick flash, it's flashing when it's off that's the issue and on the E46 at least only the halogen activates on a pull if the xenons are not on even if only the sidelights are on.

People who speed up when you are overtaking them... fortunately all on multi-lane roads so didn't result in potential for an accident but still...

I'm thinking of a little money spinner. Set up a business to use AI to scan dashcam footage from youtube of bad driving and purloin the driver's details in much the way shady car parks do. Then get in touch with the vehicle owner's insurance company so that they have a reason to hike their premiums - I'll take a 10% cut of that increase. I'd be a millionaire in no time :D.

Also an added benefit is that since I own the system/business and all businesses seem to be as corrupt as **** nowadays, I'll make sure my car registration is always ignored and never flagged. I'll offer the same perk to friends and family and to anybody else that wants to cross my palm with silver . I think I'll name the business the Traffic Police. No, wait....
