Crimson Desert - Not an MMORPG…anymore

Haven't read much about this as I want to go in blind when I get time, but before I slam purchase - what sort of game is it similar to, would the people say?

Elder Scrolls / Witcher kinda thing?
It's like all of your favourite games smashed into 1. Buy it.

If you can get over the rather wonky controls (many seemingly cant) then its a great game with a shed ton of content.

Surprised at the amount of very strong language though as tonally the rest of the game is very different.

this is quite taxing GPU wise - on my 9070XT with full cinematic settings, full RT and Ray Reconstruction - I need to use FSR 4 to upscale even at 1080p. If I run at 1080p native with no FSR the frame rates can't meet 60

with FSR it is as near as a solid 60fps

enjoying it so far :)
Whaaat your using RR on a 9070XT! Nah no way, it cripples my 5070Ti at 4k. I turn it off. Game looks great with it off anyways.

This is really growing on me. Still only 4 or 5 hours in and I believe it starts to 'gel' more even later in the game but this is a great world they've developed and while the story is all over the place (to the extent that it exists at all?) it's beautifully realised and has that "oh, what's that over there?" feeling I haven't felt in a videogame for a while.

9/10 - would get murdered by the ground because I ran out of stamina while flying again.

You can also attempt a well timed Axiom grapple to the ground or a nearby object whilst falling to negate the fall damage.
Also, don't fall into a large body of water with no stamina, that is certain death.

Haven't felt natural exploration feeling since Elden ring, seemingly fromsoft are masters at rewarding exploration

In Elden ring I could just pick any direction or something that looked interesting, go there and be rewarded with new stories, new cool npc's, hidden secrets, new dungeons, new bosses and new items. Is Crimson Desert like this too?

No but sometimes yes. You can go in a direction and find a bunch of things to do, even bosses. You'll be gated by world progress in many places. e.g. a ruin with a puzzle that you can't complete til you've met a certain npc that triggers it.

I've stopped randomly exploring new places because it happens so often. I'm sticking to the campaign and ducking in and out of side quests here and there.

I caved and tried the fake MFG, didn't work anyway.

I also uninstalled the game and downloaded it in its entirety again, thank god for 1Gbit connections these days.

The game looks even worse, this game must be unique how it looks so different between systems.

Some puzzles can’t be completed until you hit a certain part in the story quests!
They could let you know. The game is all about exploration and yet you can spend time trying to complete a puzzle that is locked behind the main quest.

Reported it Pearl Abyss, mentioned putting a lock icon on the map when you find the area to say story mission.

I did the same, it’s because I did a lot of exploring before meeting him. On the other hand I met a few random bosses who humiliated me just as much.

I’ve played around with the settings over and over and have finally settled on no DLAA or DLSS, cinematic and HDR on, and that’s it.

Locked at 60Hz and it’s buttery smooth. Could push for more frames, could even use fake ones and DLSS, but to my eyes it just looks best like this, albeit running it with a 5090.
