Just watching a Peter Powers show. Have you ever been hypnotised by a hypnotherapist or a stage hypnotist? Any stories?

Went to a hypnotist show many moons back whilst at uni, I really didn't believe in it but it was interesting to watch the crowd react to the instructions.

Had people lock their owns hands and then tell them that they couldn't pull them apart, with a few drinks in everyone it was strange seeing people pretend/convince themselves that they couldn't do it just because the person next to them was doing the same and they didn't want to be the odd one out.

seen him twice in glasgow funny enough it was mostly the same people on stage the 2nd night make of that what you will.

Still some were definitely under the influence as one bird stripped naked when it was supposed to be only men doing it. She was in floods of tears and so was I it was well funny. :D

I've never been hypnotised on stage but I have been using hypnosis mp3s for years. Being hypnotised is something I do as regularly as sleeping now, I can't see myself without it now :)

Really? What do you use it for?

Well to start off with I used it to relax because of exam stress. It worked a treat and continues to do so. Before using the files I recall that I would get headaches, be stressed, sometimes quick to anger, and always feel tense. Now I couldn't be more different, I always feel relaxed and find that I have much greater emotional self control. Since then I have experimented with using other files for recreational purposes, some of which I won't go into here... the ones I'm having a go with at the moment should result in some more profound hallucinogenic effects before to long I hope.

I always have trouble getting to sleep, will that work on me?

Would be great on me as i get about 5-6 hours sleep a night if im lucky, and with school and all it isnt ideal :D

I can't be done because I can't empty my head.

I thought it was a load of balls until I witnessed my wife at Pontins in the early 80's.
Stage hypnotists go through a few routines with the audience until they find some victims.
One of the routines was to pull your hands apart and my wife couldn't do it.
She sat by the table crying her eyes out because she didn't want to be part of the act but under no circumstances would her hands seperate and she ended up on the stage.
Once she was up there she wasn't a good subject though.

I know quite a lot of the tricks because my cousin used to be one for years.

Hypnosis is different for everyone, not just the induction but how much it helps you too. Personally I find I fall straight to sleep after I'm done listening (I usually listen just before going to bed) Why not give it a go?

Apparently, according to a hypnotist we went to see, I can't be hypnotised!

Then again, I've never seen this guy yet! :D

The guy only picks people who natrually extrovert. Under hypnosis it is impossible to do anything you wouldn't be inclined to do/didn't want to do, or went against your personality. You're actually in control the whole time, with hypnosis.

Anyone can be hypnotised if they want to be. But not everyone can be hypnotised and do things like what Peter Powers causes people to do, unless of course, you're that way inclined.

i have quite a bad stammer, and have had hypnotherapy for it, and let me tell you, this stuff you see on stage and on the TV is a load of cobblers.

your perfectly lucid and awake, and aware of everything thats happening to you

and its the most amazing feeling ever, the hypnotherapist just talks to you, and it seems to sink in, at some kind of sub-concious level. its really quite amazing...

and the best buzz i have ever had ...ever !!

:p

hypnotising is not possible, well it may work on dumb people but i doubt smart people can fall for it.

Heard of Hypnotherapy?
But I agree the hypnotic stuff on TV is bull imo.

The stage stuff is not bull.
What you don't see is the 20 minutes before they turn on the cameras where the hypnotist works the audience.
If you think its bull I suggest you go to see an act but go along with 20 of your workmates/family and then be shocked because it might be you who can't lift your drink off the table.

mate, i have been hypnotised, and i can assure you, the one golden rule of it, is that if your made to do anything against your morals, then it breaks the 'trance'

the test done for 20 mins beforehand, are not really to hypnotize the crowd, its to find out how outgoing and extrovert and open to suggestion the subjects are. i have tried the various techniques myself (which i am not gonna descibe here) and thats exactly what its for.

there is a difference between being open to suggestion, and showing off on-stage

And I totally agree because I've worked with and know plenty of hypnotists and I know their tricks.
If there are 10 subjects on stage the hypnotists know that 2 of them aren't real and are up for a laugh.
This is why they will always find somebody because they'll tell the subjects that thick people can't be hypnotised.
However, many times I've seen people go under who you wouldn't expect it from including my wife and sister in law and many many workmates.
